Last week we ran a poll for NHL fans to voice their opinions on which 2018-19 playoff teams would make the playoffs this season and which were going to miss - the results are in!

Well that’s cool! People outside of extremely biased Flyers fans think they will make a postseason appearance this year! I say that with the utmost admiration and respect, by the way, I love nothing more than a biased Flyers fan.
Should I feel less confident in the confidence in the Flyers given who is in the number one spot? Maybe. I am not at all convinced the Edmonton Oilers are a good team, but they have been banking point so I guess that counts. I feel the same way about the Sabres, even though I did have them as a wildcard team in my preseason projections. It certainly feels like the Panthers have a shot, but do the Canadiens? Only time will tell.
Much more fun is that NHL fans have no confidence in fellow Metro Division teams the Columbus Blue Jackets and New York Islanders. Understandably so, CBJ had just a few key subtractions over the summer, only a few, and NYI, uh, who is even on that team outside of Mathew Barzal? The most fun piece of data from these polls is that the number six team that made the playoffs last year and will miss this year is the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Yes, that’s right, the Pittsburgh Penguins. I don’t know about you, but I for one would be thrilled to see those idiots and losers from the other side of the state miss the playoffs. We don’t like you and we don’t want you in our cool playoffs club! I can’t wait for the day the wheels fall off for that organization, like they have for the New York Rangers! It’s so satisfying.
How do these opinions match up with what we’re seeing in the point projections?

They’re not super far off! That whole jumble in the middle there, these are the teams we’re looking at. That dotted line is what we expect to see the playoff point total cutoff to be. It’s going to be an interesting season.
We will ask these same questions two more times this season — once in late December or early January, and again in March. Between now and then, there will be questions on a variety of topics every other Wednesday sent straight to the email of everyone who has signed up to participate. Want your opinion heard?
