Slap Shots: Flyers vs Flames

Another extended game. So many pictures.

The Philadelphia Flyers were back at home for some Saturday afternoon action as they hosted the Calgary Flames at the Wells Fargo Center.

Jake Voracek opened the scoring with a diving effort off a shot from Travis Sanheim to give the Orange and Black a 1-0 lead heading into the third period.

Calgary would tie things up very early in the third period, thanks to a goal from Andrew Mangiapane. Late in the third, Kevin Hayes would get himself back on track with a huge goal with under four minutes remaining in regulation. It looked like the Flyers were on track to win this one in regulation, but with 83 seconds remaining, Elias Lindholm would tie the game up and send it to overtime. The game would eventually lead to a shootout. In the skills competition, Matthew Tkachuk went backhand under Carter Hart’s pad to clinch the victory for Calgary.

The Flyers gained a point, but it’s definitely considered a disappointment, especially with how Calgary was playing on the road. They return to action on Monday as they host the Vancouver Canucks.
