Jake Voracek is announced as Flyers alternate captain

Voracek claims the “A” left by the Wayne Simmonds trade.

Everyone knows Wayne Simmonds and Jakub Voracek are friends. Good friends. Simmonds once said that it looked like Voracek combed his hair with a pork chop. Voracek shot back that he cooked that pork chop for their dinner. It’s a deep Flyers bromance.

On Monday, Simmonds was traded to the Nashville Predators and it was the end of an era. He left behind him an “A” on his sweater, the mark of an alternate captain. The Flyers announced on Twitter Thursday afternoon that this “A” has been given to Voracek.

All jokes aside, this is no surprise. Voracek has always been part of the Flyers leadership group both on and off the ice. He is a vocal member of the team and is not afraid to tell it like it is. Congratulations to Jake on this honor.
