The date is September 10 — we are three days away from Flyers Training Camp and six days away from the first preseason game against the Islanders. 22 year old defenseman Ivan Provorov and 22 year old right wing Travis Konecny do not have contracts for the 2019-20 season. Yes, the season that starts in six days.
Everyone has been talking about this, it’s been the topic of the summer. We’ve talked about it here. And also here. And here again. And oh yeah, Clayton Keller signed a contract recently so we talked about it again! In fact, we’ve been talking about this since last June!
This could all change today. Allegedly. I remain unconvinced, but this is what is being said:
Fletcher said he is speaking today with agents both for Provorov and Konecny.

#Flyers GM Chuck Fletcher hopeful to get close to deals for RFAs Travis Konecny and Ivan Provorov as soon as today.

Flyers RFA D Ivan Provorov agent Todd Diamond : We were closer yesterday than many weeks before. The Werenski deal will affect the remaining defenseman, things are starting to move in the right direction.

This all seems positive, but we’ve been here before. There have been so many false starts this summer from both reliable and unreliable sources. Hopefully this time is different, especially with Zach Werenski signing a reasonable contract yesterday. Fingers crossed everyone, we’ll keep you updated with anything new we hear!
