Monday night’s game between the Boston Bruins and Philadelphia Flyers is a perfect example of why Brad Marchand is actually great for the league.
After a crazy entertaining sixty-five minutes of hockey that saw the Flyers erase a 5-2 deficit to be one Marchand vs Carter Hart shootout attempt away from earning the game’s third point, and Marchand puts himself in contention for the Not Top 10 by over-skating the puck out of center ice, ending the game on a walk-off error.
If any other player in the league, save Tom Wilson and maybe Matthew Tkachuk, and this is just a funny thing that happened and everybody moves on. Flyers win, way to go.
But Marchand is the best damn heel in the business, so his blunder unites 30/31 fan bases for a few hours to revel in the embarrassment of an All-Star agitator. It is truly moments like this that remind us all of how truly great this game is.
Could anybody but the league’s most despised player make a random game in January this memorable?
Anyway, listen to the postgame.
