At least it’s over now.

The Philadelphia Flyers wrapped up their road trip with an overtime loss in Raleigh to the Carolina Hurricanes on Tuesday night, finally returning home with a 1-4-1 record since the Christmas break.

Travis Konecny gave his club the lead 37 seconds into the first period, and Michael Raffl ended a 23-game goalless drought off a beautiful feed from Jake Voracek before the midway point of the opening frame, and Philly seemed to have the ‘Canes number, as they did when they beat them twice in November by a combined score of 9-4.

Despite James Reimer looking just as shaky as Petr Mrazek had in the previous contests, the Flyers just couldn’t generate enough after their early surge, and gave up four straight goals between the final 10 minutes of the first, and opening five minutes of the second period.

While clawing back in it and tying the game to squeeze out a point was a silver lining, especially considering they had a clear goal disallowed by an embarrassingly quick whistle, the context of the road trip doesn’t allow for much Bright Side-ing.

Should the orange and black be looking for another goaltending replacement? What’s up with Shayne Gostisbehere? How can this team fix what ails them? Are they really still in a playoff spot? Can I figure out my new microphone? All this and more on an exhilarating episode of the postgame.
