On Thursday afternoon, at around 3:30 PM EST, the Flyers made a very important announcement:
Injury update: Defenseman Shayne Gostisbehere will have arthroscopic surgery on his left knee on Tuesday, Jan. 14. He is expected to return to play in approximately three weeks.
— Philadelphia Flyers (@NHLFlyers) January 9, 2020
The news comes after an MRI was performed on the 26 year old defenseman after he missed the Flyers’ win at home against the Capitals, having played 16:14 against the Hurricanes in an overtime loss. In Gostisbehere’s absence, Mark Friedman was called up from the Phantoms, playing 11:49 total on Wednesday.
This was followed by even more news:
Roster move: We have recalled forward David Kase from the @LVPhantoms (AHL). Forward Mikhail Vorobyev has been loaned back to Lehigh Valley.
— Philadelphia Flyers (@NHLFlyers) January 9, 2020
Kase will join the Flyers for the first time since his initial call up during a stretch of games in which he scored his first NHL goal against his brother’s Anaheim Ducks at home in front of his family, truly a moment to cherish.
As for Vorobyev, the now 23 year old has seen a mixed bag of performances in his short NHL career so far, and will join one time teammate Morgan Frost in Lehigh Valley.
