*What-if week is making us look back on some interesting times and ponder some alternate timelines. And of course one of the wildest alternate timelines would be the one in which Nashville didn’t match. [BSH]

*Also have to consider how things might have changed had Mr. Snider not been hellbent on signing a big-name goaltender. [BSH]

*And then of course there are the re-drafts. Nothing gets weirder than trying to do-over a draft, what with all of this beneficial hindsight. [BSH]

*But enough of the alternate timelines; we’re still stuck in this hellish existence, in which Gary Bettman insists that cancelling the season just isn’t on the table. [Canadian Press]

*Why, you ask? Well, cancelling is just too gosh darn easy. And the NHL never takes the easy way out! [ProHockeyTalk]

*Anyway, Pierre LeBrun got a full rundown of where things stand from Bettman’s second in command. [The Athletic]

*It looks like professional women’s hockey is looking to restructure the way it locates teams in an interesting — and smart — way. [ProHockeyTalk]

*And finally, it’s been a while since we’ve had some nice meaty nerd steak to sink our teeth into (that was weird, I’m sorry) and this dive into expected goals models is the perfect thing to get your brains turning on a Thursday. [Hockey Graphs]
