Every year, the Professional Hockey Writers Association, or PHWA, come together to vote on individual awards for each NHL regular season. While its many members vote on a variety of topics, today, each of the PHWA’s chapters nominated a player of choice for the Bill Masterton Trophy. This trophy is awarded yearly to the player who “best exemplifies the qualities of perseverance, sportsmanship, and dedication to hockey”.

Dave Isaac, the chair of the Philadelphia PHWA chapter, announced today that Oskar Lindblom would be their nominee for the award:

The nomination comes after Lindblom began his final round of treatment in late April. According to Alain Vigneault, cited in an NBCSP article, Lindblom has been working out since then. The following quote from Lindblom was also included in the article:

“I’m honored to be nominated for this special award by the Philadelphia PHWA chapter. This past season has been a difficult one for sure, but the positive support I’ve received from my family, my girlfriend, teammates, the Flyers organization and Flyers fans has been a tremendous help and inspiration through these times and I look forward to the day I’m back on the ice.

I was very touched to see how many people, whether they support the Flyers or another team, were wearing #OskarStrong T-shirts. I continue to feel your support.”

We are very happy to hear positive news about Oskar, and we continue to be #OskarStrong as ever.
