No. 2 Colorado Avalanche vs. No. 3 Dallas Stars
It’s the start of the first round, and we sort of got to ease into things with just one game on the docket yesterday. And riding high on their momentum from their 7-3 Game 6 win over Calgary to close out the first round, the Stars came into this one with a head of steam, looking to give the high-powered Avalanche some trouble.
Tyler Seguin got the Stars on the board four minutes into the period, but that inital lead was shot lived, as the Avalanche came right back and Nathan MacKinnon scored just a minute and four seconds later to tie things up again. But the Stars were still doing well to control play, and they scored two unanswered after that, with goals for Blake Comeau and Alexander Radulov before the close of the first period. The first period also saw Philipp Grubauer leave the game with an apparent lower body injury, as his left leg appeared to just sort of give out on him when he stretched out to make a save. Pavel Francouz would come in and play the remainder of the game.
Gabriel Landeskog got the Avalanche back within one early in the second period, but Radulov restored the two goal lead midway through the period, picking up his second goal of the night. MacKinnon also picked up his second of the night late in the period, and the Avalanche looked like they might have some more push in them, but that ended up being just about it. Roope Hintz would beat Francouz with a pretty stellar shot just before the midway point of the third, and that would seal up the win for Dallas.
