We are mere hours into 2021 and already we’ve got some fun news in Flyers country:
Per Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet, the Flyers will play the Bruins in an outdoor game on Lake Tahoe.
ON LAKE TAHOE. Okay not actually on the lake but like, right next to it. It’s still pretty cool. And absolutely gorgeous, as Elliotte subsequently tweeted that this photo is from, approximately, where the game will be played. Would you get a load of this:

According to multiple sources, the NHL is beginning its Mystery, Alaska experiment, with four teams as part of a unique two-game, two-day “Outdoor Weekend” showcase at Lake Tahoe. Edgewood Tahoe Resort, home of the popular celebrity golf tournament, is hosting these games, which will be played around the 16th, 17th and 18th holes.
Friedman’s report is very “according to sources” in its wording, but c’mon, it’s Elliotte Friedman, you guys. This guy doesn’t miss.
The games will — allegedly! — be played in late February, as the NHL’s first attempt to hold games in ‘natural’ settings rather than inside baseball or football stadiums. If it happens, it’s going to be a gorgeous spectacle, to be sure. And we won’t have to watch the Blackhawks doing it!
