Today’s open discussion thread, complete with your daily dose of Flyers news and notes…

*You could say yesterday was the low point. We found out early that the Flyers-Capitals game meant to be played last night would be postponed because of Covid concerns. On the heels of the rest of this week’s games being postponed because of the Devils’ ongoing issues. [BSH]

*Then, at 5PM, the league released their daily Covid update. And we learned that Justin Braun and Claude Giroux have been added to the protocol. No confirmation of positive testing, but with three Flyers now on the list, it doesn’t seem promising. Terrible news. [BSH]

*Apparently, the league is going to be “enhancing” its Covid-related rules, per Dreger:

*In between all of this, Ron Hextall was hired as the new General Manager of the Pittsburgh Penguins. WHAT A DAY. [Pensburgh]

*This means the Pens will probably blow it up at some point soon, that’s sort-of positive. [ProHockeyTalk]

*One more bit of awful news to get out of the way: Tyson Foerster’s first pro game lead to an injury that will sideline him for weeks. Awful. [Inquirer]

*Anyway, how about something good? Like James van Riemsdyk kicking ass so far this season! Here’s hoping he stays hot over the break. [The Athletic]

*Evidently JVR is relishing his role as a veteran leader during his second go-round with Philly. [ESPN+ (paywall)]

*Since his scratching, Travis Konecny has taken working on his game very seriously. Particularly his defensive game. [Inquirer]

*And finally, this week’s Flyers Forecast. Which... well, it’s entertaining. That I can assure you. [BSH]

*Initially, I called this week’s games “cancelled.” This isn’t accurate, they are postponed, and I’ve corrected it accordingly. - K.H.
