Flyers sign Cam York to Entry Level Contract

New, comments

At long last!

Heather Barry/ SB Nation

It’s been a weird few days around here (a weird year, if we’re honest), and if we were hoping for a bit of good news, well, it’s here! The Flyers just announced that they’ve signed 2019 first round pick defenseman Cam York to a three year entry level contract, which begins this season.

York is coming off of a really solid sophomore season with the University of Michigan, which saw him total four goals and 16 assists in 24 games, and earned himself Defenseman of the Year honors from the Big Ten. He posted really solid underlying numbers as well, posting a 64.39 CF% and 76.87 Controlled Exit% per my shot impact and transition tracking projects, anchoring things really well for Michigan defensively while also serving as one of, if not their best, puck movers.

York also captained the US National Team to a gold medal at this year’s World Juniors, adding another feather to his cap for this season, to boot.

As we mentioned, the contract kicks in this season, so York will be heading in from Michigan soon. In all likelihood, we’ll see him joining the Phantoms for some games once he completes any quarantining that may be necessary and then gets in for some practices. The when is a little imprecise, but his professional debut is right around the corner, so we’ve got something to be excited about around here.
