I know that this stat isn't complex, it's probably faulty, and will get me obliterated in the comment section, but hey! I just want to know if this stat can work, and if not, then I'll move on! I tasked myself with building a stat that can measure anybody from any era, from Bobby Clarke to Travis Sanheim to Chris Mason to Reggie Leach.
The base stats for forwards go as follows:
((Offense + Defense)/2) = Player Value
Offense: ((Goals + (Assists*0.5))*(82/Games Played) - (((Team Shots Against* (1 - League Average SV ))/12 for Forwards, 18 for Defensemen)
Defense over 0: (((Defensive Point Shares/1.4 for Forwards, 2.8 for Defensemen)*7)
Defense under 0: ((Defensive Point Shares-1.4 or 2.8*)*28 for forwards, 14 for defensemen)
Example: 1980 Bobby Clarke
Offense: ((19 + (46*0.5))*(82/80) - (((2319* (1 - .874))/12) = +18.7 Offensive Rating
Defense: (((1.3/1)*7) = +9.1 Defensive Rating
Value: ((18.7 + 9.1)/2) = +13.9 Value
For reference, +10 indicates a first liner, 0-10 indicates second line, 0 to -10 third line, -10 or worse AHL level.
And for goalies...
Goalie Value: (SVV + aGAAV)
SVV: (((SV - League Average SV)*1000))
aGAAV: ((((((Games Played * Average Shots Against)*(1 - SV%))/GP))((League Average GAA-3)/3)) * 50)
Example: 1987 Ron Hextall
SVV: (((.902 - .880)*1000)) = +22 Save Rating
aGAAV: ((((((66 * 29.9)*(1 - .902))/66))((3.45-3)/3)) * 50) = +22 GAA Rating
Value: ((22 + 22)/2) = +22.0 Value
You can even gage salaries.
Contract Value
0+: 3 million + (PV*/5) million
-0: 3 million - (PV*/3) million, goes to 700K
PV: ((PV from year) + (PV from year before * 0.5) + (PV from 2nd year before * 0.25))
Rookie Contracts
0+: 1 million + (PV/20) million
-0: 1 million - (PV/20) million, goes to 700K
Length
((3 - (AGE-27))/2) + (PV/7)
(3 + (-22)), lowest 3, highest 5
Inflation Adjustment
60s and below: /50
1970-1976: /25
1977-1983: /20
1984-1986: /15
1987-1990: /10
1991-1994: /3.5
1995-1996: /1.75
1997-2000: /1.3
2001-2005: /1.2
2006-2008: /1.15
2008-2013: /1.1
2013+: Same
Example: 1987 Wayne Gretzky

22.5 million CAD
Wow, complicated. Let's see how it goes.
* 1.4 and 2.8 turn to 1 and 3.5 if before 1995, don't use % in stats
