With the 86th pick in the 2014 NHL Draft, the Philadelphia Flyers have selected Mark Friedman, a defenseman from Waterloo of the USHL.
Friedman's a relatively small defenseman, at 5'10" and 185 pounds, and he's definitely more renowned for his work on the offensive side of things. His 40 points in 51 games last season were good for fourth in the USHL among all defensemen, and he was second in points per game.
He actually missed nine games due to mononucleosis this past season, which puts his already-impressive scoring numbers in context even more. (Sound like any other recent Flyers draft pick?) He's committed to play at Bowling Green State University this upcoming fall.
