2025 Resolutions for each Flyer

October 26, 2024: The Philadelphia Flyers play a game against the Minnesota Wild at the Wells Fargo Center.

Ah, the New Year. A time for a fresh start–to reset and get a new perspective on things. Many people write down resolutions and the like to have clearer goals as the calendar turns, and the Flyers should be no different. Today, we’re going to assign some resolutions to each Flyer, though a couple are going to share because they need to do the same thing. Happy New Year, folks!

Emil Andrae: To get back in the lineup and stay there

We’ve written about how Andrae deserves to be here, and his number one resolution for 2025 should be to get back in the lineup and stay there for the year.

Jamie Drysdale & Sean Couturier: To stay healthy for an entire season

Drysdale missed a few weeks to start the season, but Coots has been–by and large–healthy. Keep that rollin’ for 2025, fellas.

Joel Farabee: To make just one (1) puck go in the net

A career-low 5.6 shooting percentage is bound to regress to the mean at some point, but Farabee needs to get that regression rolling with a goal–maybe two!

Travis Konecny: To crack 100 points for the first time in his career

TK is flirting with a 100-point pace right now, and any kind of boost to the power play would put that fully in the realm of possibility. Last season, TK had nine power play points total; he’s already got that many in half a season.

Matvei Michkov: Hit the Michigan

The real answer is probably “continue studying English,” but resolving to score a lacrosse goal is far more entertaining.

Owen Tippett: Find the right combination of equipment to keep scoring

How many different sticks, gloves, and tape jobs has Tippett gone through this season? We can’t keep track, but it seems like a lot. Figure out a mix that works and stick to it, bud.

Morgan Frost: Become the middle-six center we always expected…but on a different team

A change of scenery would do Frost wonders, we’re certain, and this feels like the year it’s going to happen. He’ll be motivated in a, “I’ll show Torts!” sort of sense.

Scott Laughton: Score four goals in one ga-

Wait, he already did that one. What do you get the man who’s got everything?

Noah Cates: Keep that offense rolling

It’s a contract year for the RFA, and if his recent scoring is sustainable? You’ve got a reliable, play driving forward that can take on a lot of roles. Get that bag, Noah!

Garnet Hathaway, Ryan Poehling & Nick Seeler: Keep on keepin’ on

Hathaway and Seeler are here to set the tone and bring some grit, and Poehling’s here to be a speedy center. That’s what they’re doing. Don’t fix what ain’t broke.

Sam Ersson: Rediscover that goaltending magic from last season

Remember when Ersson had a two month stretch in 2023-24 where the only goalie with better numbers was Connor Hellebuyck? More of that, please.

Rasmus Ristolainen: Experience playoff hockey for the first time

Whether it’s with the Flyers or another team, Risto’s earned a playoff trip after a decade of never seeing the postseason.

Bobby Brink: Backcheck

Brink might’ve gotten a jump on this resolution, because his off-puck engagement level has been through the roof the last couple weeks.

Cam York: Bring another friend to the Flyers

York’s already got a buddy in Drysdale, so uh…what’s Trevor Zegras up to these days?

Nic Deslauriers: Have one more epic bout in a Flyers uniform

While he’s injured at the moment, Deslauriers is one of the tough guys in the league–and he’s got one year left on his contract. A healthy Deslauriers could find himself on a new team by the end of 2025, but it’d be great to leave the Flyers on a high with an all-star fight.

Erik Johnson: Enjoy the Flyers shaped pretzels

He got to a thousand games, and has barely been in the lineup since. After such a long career, Johnson ought to enjoy a lesser on-ice role.

Travis Sanheim: Don’t get hurt at Four Nations

A couple summer ago, Sanheim played at the IIHF Worlds and broke his foot; it ruined his off season, and the Flyers tried to trade him the next summer. Hopefully, international play isn’t cursed for Sanheim.

Aleksei Kolosov: Never see Lehigh Valley again

So far, so good! At least Kolosov’s holding his own at the NHL level.

Ivan Fedotov: See the ice again

Fedotov has found himself the third goalie in the pecking order, but one assumes he still wants to get some games in.

Egor Zamula: Stick in the lineup

It’s tough for Zamula to do this with Andrae nipping at his heels, but that’s part of the rebuild: be better than the guy behind you, and you’ll get your ice time.

Tyson Foerster: Become Mark Stone

This one’s lofty, but maybe he gets there!
