The Philadelphia Flyers will be playing Carolina tonight with a little something extra on their helmets: a Chevrolet sticker. The team made the announcement this morning which will feature the signature logo and the name underneath it on both the team’s white helmets and black helmets depending on if the game is home or away.
A press release states the automobile maker being renown for “its toughness, reliability, and strength” according to Todd Glickman, Comcast Spectator’s Chief Revenue Officer, adding the same traits are found throughout the Flyers organization and team. The presser also showed Travis Konecny, Sean Couturier, Travis Sanheim and Gritty sporting the new helmet.
The partnership will also see the Chevrolet getting digital signage in Wells Fargo Center and a Chevrolet vehicle located on the concourse for spectators to see. The partnership will be celebrated with free parking for any fan driving a Chevrolet to the Carolina game Wednesday night and parks in the Wells Fargo Center Complex lots.
There’s no word if Flyers coach John Tortorella will start referring to his players with current or former Chevy brand nicknames, for example Matvei Michkov being “El Torro,” Bobby Brink being the “S10 Max,” Konecny being “Spark” or veteran Erik Johnson being “Silverado.”
In 2021 the Flyers had TCS (Tata Consultancy Services, an IT company, as its helmet sponsor during the pandemic-shortened season.
The Flyers aren’t the first to have sponsorships on their helmets. In fact it’s almost the norm with various teams having different partnerships. Minnesota is another team who are tied into cars as Toyota is their sponsor. Some teams such as Dallas have different sponsorships depending on if they’re playing a home game (Energy Transfer) or a road game (7 Eleven). Edmonton’s away helmet is sponsored by Skip The Dishes while Toronto’s sponsorship is with Oreo, the anti-Christ of all cookies as we all know Fudgee-O cookies are king.
We’ll see if this new logo will breathe new life into the Flyers or they end up becoming the Edsel or Pinto of the National Hockey League. We hope it’s the former but one never knows.
