On this very hot Thursday, where we feel cursed for living in the northeast and can feel sweat pouring out of every pore, the hockey gods have shone their holy light on us, fans of the Philadelphia Flyers hockey club.
Announced by the team, the New Jersey Devils have hired some executives to fill out their front office. Former goaltender Manny Legace is the team’s head amateur goaltending scout and a development coach, former Devils defenseman Andy Greene is a new member of the Hockey Operations department, and Chuck Fletcher has been hired as the Senior Advisor to the General Manager and President of Hockey Operations, who is Tom Fitzgerald.
That’s right, the former Flyers general manager Chuck Fletcher is now going to be giving some advice to the Devils, the Flyers’ own divisional rival who they might be battling against for a playoff spot in future years.
Fletcher, who panicked and traded for Rasmus Ristolainen, giving up some very good draft picks. The man who actually wanted Tony DeAngelo on his hockey team and gave up some more draft picks for. The dude who actually gave up draft picks to get rid of Shayne Gostisbehere, who went on to have some very good seasons. The executive that took on Ryan Ellis, who is probably not going to be playing hockey anymore. And the general manager that really made this team only worse and wasted years of our hockey fandom.
While he will not have as much power as he did in Philadelphia, we do get to possibly witness a team we really do not like, make some weird decisions as they try to compete for a Stanley Cup. Because when you need to take the next level and want trophies, you get the guy responsible for the Minnesota Wild’s mediocrity and the Flyers’ currently needing to undo a lot of mistakes and rebuild.
Have fun, Devils fans.
