That’s a wrap on another Development Camp, folks! Despite the fact that they weren’t able to fulfill the ultimate fan wish and get Matvei Michkov over in time to make a surprise appearance, the Flyers still had a productive week with a number of their prospects showing well in competition with and against their peers. Let’s hit the highlight reel.
Jett Luchanko
We’ll begin by addressing something of our shiny new toy syndrome. With Luchanko coming in as the newest first-round pick (and as something of an unexpected pick, we should add), eyes were bound to be trained on him with some real intensity, but the good news is that he put on a real show for those watching him.
With Luchanko, as we might have predicted, his speed is what really popped during camp. Simply, he was just faster than pretty much everyone — if not flat out everyone — out there, and that was exciting to see. He got lost a little in some of the battle drills, was just okay, but he came in with something of a vengeance for the 5-on-5 tournament on Saturday. We didn’t see him get on the board, but that certainly wasn’t for lack of trying. Luchanko was buzzing, was getting to the net for chances, but the puck luck just wasn’t with him that night. So it goes. All the same, he had an impressive first camp, and seems to have done well to get fans excited about what he can do going forward.
