With the Flyers’ Rookie Series officially in the books, and their rookie camp just winding down this week, all that’s left is to finally jump into the main camp.

The Flyers made it official this morning, announcing that this year’s training camp will kick off on Thursday with the first of their practices at their training center in Voorhees, which, along with Friday’s will see the roster broken down into three groups for the skates, and then combing on Saturday for a bit of scrimmage work, and then ultimately being broken down again on Sunday, in preparation for their first bit of true game action, as they face off with the Islanders that evening on the road. It’s the first bit of ramping up of action, and the first step in gathering the information and impressions the front office will need to begin whittling down this 57-man roster.

And as far as that roster is concerned, there really isn’t much going on in the way of surprises — the group of all but locks for the NHL lineup is well intact (though Tyson Foerster is still skating in a non-contact jersey as of this morning, but remains on track to be ready to start the regular season, and should be able to have that removed within the next week), while the full compliment of the depth from their AHL roster will be joining the group, along with that group of younger prospects who will likely be junior-bound before long. Outside of Andre Mondoux, who joined the team through both Development and Rookie Camps, there will be no further players joining the team on a tryout basis, so the group here more or less is the group (and along with that, though Egor Zamula was absent from the initial roster sent out, Flyers General Manager Danny Briere confirmed this morning that he is present and expected to take part in camp, so potential drama averted there).

The preseason will be a big one, with just a few spots on the NHL roster still up for grabs and a number of players openly vying for them, and it will be appointment viewing to see who steps up and grabs this opportunity before them.
