It’s been a busy weekend around here with all of the draft happenings unfolding, and the Flyers won’t be slowing down anytime soon. With all of that business taken care of, the next phase is getting a look at some of these brand new prospects in action.
The Flyers’ annual Development Camp will offer just that opportunity. As the Flyers announced on Sunday morning, this year’s camp is set to get underway in short order, opening up with the first of four days’ worth of on-ice sessions on Monday afternoon, where they’re set to split their time between traditional skill sessions and targeted power skating work. This is a setup that will carry through just about the whole of camp, and then the back half will see some more structured game action brought into the fold, with a 5-on-5 scrimmage closing out the day on Thursday, and then camp as a whole wrapping up with the annual (and always delightful) 3-on-3 tournament.
As a reminder, session times are subject to change, but all will be free and open to the public over at the Flyers Training Center.

This week will be a big introduction to all six of the newly drafted prospects, but it’s also a good chance to catch up with some familiar names. Cole Knuble will return to camp with some momentum after their solid AHL debuts in the spring, and players like Jack Murtagh and Shane Vansaghi will show what they can do after a first and another, respectively, college season under their belt. Meanwhile, some players with a bit of NHL experience in the back pocket will get in for a bit of action this week — with Porter Martone and Alex Bump returning after stepping up as nice standouts in last year’s edition, while Denver Barkey and Oliver Bonk will come along with them, getting a chance to take advantage of a bit more in the way of development sessions, after being limited with injury last time around.
Unfortunately, though, we won’t get to see a couple of top prospects this time around, as both Jack Berglund and Jett Luchanko are not slated to participate in the on-ice activities.
It’s a busy schedule of action set for this week, but it’s worth a reminder that this week is all about learning. We can take some observations from how things unfold, but this week isn’t set up as a trap to make or break anyone. It’s all just one more step in a long development process.
