Sometimes, you just need to stand up for your teammate when some online hockey stats nerd criticizes him. Philadelphia Flyers winger Joel Farabee decided to quote tweet in defense of his long-time teammate, Travis Sanheim on Wednesday night in hilarious fashion.
The rosters for the NHL’s 4 Nations Face-Off tournament were announced and that caused just about every single person that pays attention to the sport on a daily basis, post their opinion about what players were selected and what players were not by each of the four countries. As we know, Travis Sanheim (and Travis Konecny) was named to Canada’s roster for the mid-season tournament starting in February after leading the Flyers’ blue line in workhorse fashion this season.
Sanheim has really been stellar and deserves the spot on merit for his season so far, but of course that comes with criticism when some other higher-profile defensemen like Evan Bouchard, are going to be left at home. One of those critics was popular hockey stats Twitter account and personality, JFresh. With thousands of followers, he decided to point out that the only addition to Canada is precisely Sanheim — saying that he isn’t an amazing defender, not physical, and generally provides nothing else.
Of course, that doesn’t sit right with anyone who has had the pleasure of watching him this season — or, has played with him. Farabee logged into his Twitter account to then quote tweet and defend his teammate with a scathing remark for all of these hockey nerds that love to post images with red and blue on them: “Watch a game”.
Talk your stuff, Joel!!
What a poignant response to this take and it becomes even better as soon as you actually look at how often Farabee posts on Twitter. In this calendar year, there are only three things on his profile and this quote tweet of some hockey nerd is the only one that isn’t a retweet.
To make your first original tweet, where you have to actually type something out, since posting “Damn them boys kinda nice wit it @TerrierHockey” in support of your alma mater on March 25, 2023, to make this kind of online defense of your teammate is just so good. Typically, we have seen only retweets supporting former teammates in their retirement, or retweeting Adam Sandler, coming from Farabee — now we get to see some fiery response to a take he violently disagrees with.
It’s just too perfect. Maybe we should encourage more NHL players to just embarrass and dunk on bad takes about their teammates.
