Welcome to BSH’s weekly prospect update, where we will be serving up stats and insight on what our homegrown players have been up to. This will include prospects in Canadian Juniors (BCHL, OHL, QMJHL & WHL), Europe (SHL, KHL), and NCAA college hockey. Notable Canadian junior performers this week:
Jay O’Brien (C), Penticton Vees (BCHL)
2018 1st Round Pick, 19th overall
21 points (7 goals, 14 assists) in 12 games seems good for a 1st round pick playing in the BCHL, but who really knows. At least O’Brien is producing.
Mason Millman (D), Saginaw Spirit (OHL)
2019 4th Round Pick, 103rd overall
Still an incredibly quiet start for Millman, who has been held scoreless (including his last seven) in all but one game this season. He has 1 goal in 10 games.
Yegor Serdyuk (RW), Victoriaville Tigres (QMJHL)
2019 6th Round Pick, 165th overall
Good news and bad news. Good news, Serdyuk comes back after a three-game absence from the lineup. Bad news, he was held off the scoreboard all week. However, the 18 year old has seven points (6 G, 1 A) in as many games.
Wyatte Wylie (D), Everett Silvertips (WHL)
2018 5th Round Pick, 127th overall
Wylie has uncharacteristically only has one point in his last four games and has fallen off his point-per-game pace. He has six points (2 G, 4 A) in eight games.
Egor Zamula (D), Calgary Hitmen (WHL)
Undrafted Free Agent
Nothing gonna slow Zamula down, who has 10 points (4 G, 6 A) in his first seven games of the season.
Roddy Ross (G), Seattle Thunderbirds (WHL)
2019 6th Round Pick, 169th overall
How about Ross bouncing back after a brutal showing with a very good one? Good to have a goalie that can forget the bad ones and not let it shake him going forward.
Notable European performers this week:
Linus Högberg (D), Växjö Lakers HC (SHL)
2016 5th Round Pick, 139th overall
The Hog is averaging the third highest minutes on the team, though not much offense to speak of yet.
David Bernhardt (D), Växjö Lakers HC (SHL)
2016 7th Round Pick, 199th overall
Bernhardt was getting solid third pairing minutes, but missed Saturday’s game. Not sure if this was an injury or healthy scratch.
Adam Ginning (D), Linköping HC (SHL)
2018 2nd Round Pick, 50th overall
- 10/12 – 1 goal, 3 shots, 10:55 TOI/
After a brief demotion to the SHL junior league, Ginning was back up this week and scored a goal! It was his first point of the year in seven games with Linkoping.
Olle Lycksell (RW/C), Linköping HC (SHL)
2017 6th Round Pick, 168th overall
- 10/12 – 1 goal, 2 assists, 2 shots, 12:26 TOI/
Lycksell has been on a fun offensive trajectory this season. With a big game on Saturday he is up to seven points (3 G, 4 A) in 10 games. He had all of 12 points in 51 games last season.
Samuel Ersson (G), Brynäs IF (SHL)
2018 5th Round Pick, 143rd overall
Hockey can be hard. Ersson finding out that the SHL is not quite the Allsvenskan as he takes his licks. The promising 19 year old has a .849 SV% in four games in his first year in the SHL.
Marcus Westfält (C), Västerviks IK (Allsvenskan)
2018 7th Round Pick, 205th overall
Marcus Westfält has one point (a goal) in nine games.
Ivan Fedotov (G), Traktor Chelyabinsk (KHL)
2015 7th Round Pick, 188th overall
Fedotov is making the most of his KHL time, in which he has a .939SV% in nine games.
Notable collegiate performers this week:
Bobby Brink (RW), University of Denver
2019 2nd Round Pick, 34th overall
Perhaps his USHL season last year wasn’t a fluke? The freshman is up to four points (2 G, 2 A) in four games. Here is his goal from Saturday.
Wade Allison (RW), Western Michigan University
2016 2nd Round Pick, 52nd overall
Hopefully Allison can put his disastrous 2018-19 season behind him where it took him a long time to recover from his torn ACL. He is expected to finish out his senior year and is likely to sign a contract with the Flyers.
Tanner Laczynski (C), Ohio State University
2016 6th Round Pick, 169th overall
This is a big season for Laczynski for a multitude of reasons. He’s been on of college hockey’s best forward in each of his three seasons with OSU and apparently really wants not only that Frozen Four title, but also to be a Hobey Baker Finalist. There is still a sense of mystery surround Tanner and whether he will actually want to sign an entry-level contract with the Flyers once his season concludes.
Noah Cates (LW), University of Minnesota-Duluth
2017 5th Round Pick, 137th overall
Cates is coming off a huge freshman season that saw him put up 23 points (9 G, 14 A) in 40 games. Chances are he is only going to get better and could be a sleeper prospect this season for the Flyers.
Bryce Brodzinski (RW), University of Minnesota
2019 7th Round Pick, 196th overall
Aside from having a pretty cool name, Brodzinski makes his NCAA debut and scores his first point on Saturday. He was one of the best HS players in Minnesota last season.
Gavin Hain (C), University of North Dakota
2018 6th Round Pick, 174th overall
Hain struggled in his freshman season last year, but came on strong down the stretch. Notching two points in his first two games this season is a step in the right direction.
Cam York (D), University of Michigan
2019 1st Round Pick, 14th overall
Cam York makes his official collegiate debut to no points and sits out Saturday’s game with a speculated ankle injury.
Wyatt Kalynuk (D), University of Wisconsin
2017 7th Round Pick, 196th overall
Kalynuk is 22 years old entering his junior season with Wisconsin. He has put up back-to-back 25 points season (in 37 games each) for two years. However, he saw his goal totals increase from three to nine between his freshman and sophomore seasons. The offensive defenseman looks well on his way to surpassing those totals.
Ronnie Attard (D), Western Michigan University
2019 3rd Round Pick, 72nd overall
Ronnie Attard makes his collegiate debut this weekend and scores his first goal!
Jack St. Ivanny (D), Yale University
2018 4th Round Pick, 112nd overall
Yale’s season begins on November 1st.
