Flyers prospect report: Bobby Brink scores a goal in his collegiate debut

Welcome to BSH’s weekly prospect update, where we will be serving out stats and insight on what our homegrown players have been up to. This will include prospects in Canadian Juniors (BCHL, OHL, QMJHL & WHL), Europe (SHL, KHL), and NCAA college hockey. If you have any questions or suggestions, feel free to leave them in the comments.

Notable Canadian junior performers this week:

Jay O’Brien (C), Penticton Vees (BCHL)
2018 1st Round Pick, 19th overall

  • 9/27 – 7 PIM
  • 9/28 – 1 goal, 3 assists
  • 10/4 – 0 points
  • 10/5 – 1 goal, 3 assists/

O’Brien’s phenomenal start continues along as the 19 year old has 17 points (6 goals, 11 assists) in 10 games. Jay really needed to dominate after leaving the NCAA and he’s yet to disappoint.

Mason Millman (D), Saginaw Spirit (OHL)
2019 4th Round Pick, 103rd overall

  • 9/27 – 1 goal, 1 shot, 2 PIM
  • 9/28 – 0 shots, 2 PIM
  • 9/29 – 2 shots
  • 10/3 – 0 shots
  • 10/4 – 1 shot
  • 10/6 – 1 shot, 4 PIM/

A quiet couple weeks for Millman, but did see him get his first point in eight games this season.

Yegor Serdyuk (RW), Victoriaville Tigres (QMJHL)
2019 6th Round Pick, 165th overall

  • 9/25 – 1 goal, 2 shots, 0 for 1 FOW
  • 9/27 – DNP
  • 9/29 – 1 goal, 1 assist, 4 shots
  • 10/2 – DNP
  • 10/4 – DNP
  • 10/6 – DNP/

Good news and bad news. Good news is when Serdyuk plays, he does really well. As evidenced by his seven points (6 goals, 1 assist) in four games. Bad news is he is also dealing with a lower-body injury and is starting to miss significant time.

Wyatte Wylie (D), Everett Silvertips (WHL)
2018 5th Round Pick, 127th overall

  • 9/28 – 1 assist, 2 shots
  • 10/5 – 1 assist, 4 shots
  • 10/6 – 4 shots/

Wylie continues his point-per-game pace with five (2 G, 3 A) in his first five games of the season.

Egor Zamula (D), Calgary Hitmen (WHL)
Undrafted Free Agent

  • 9/27 – 2 assists, 5 shots, 2 PIM
  • 9/28 – 1 goal, 2 shots
  • 9/29 – 1 assist, 1 shot
  • 10/6 – 1 goal, 1 assist, 3 shots/

Egor Zamula keeps doing Egor Zamula things on offense. That is now seven points (3 G, 4 A) in five games. He is going to be a fun follow this season.

Roddy Ross (G), Seattle Thunderbirds (WHL)
2019 6th Round Pick, 169th overall

  • 9/27 – 2 GA, 21 saves
  • 10/2 – 6 GA, 27 saves
  • 10/4 – DNP
  • 10/5 – 3 GA, 25 saves/

Well that was uh…not a great couple weeks, huh? Our boy ‘Rowdy’ sports a .911 SV% through four appearances this season.

Notable European performers this week:

Linus Högberg (D), Växjö Lakers HC (SHL)
2016 5th Round Pick, 139th overall

  • 9/26 – 1 shot, 17:51 TOI
  • 9/28 – 3 shots, 23:35 TOI
  • 10/3 – 1 assist, 4 shots, 20:56 TOI
  • 10/5 – 2 shots, 19:52 TOI/

A point! Shots on goal! Look at the TOI! Things are going well for The Hog in the early going.

David Bernhardt (D), Växjö Lakers HC (SHL)
2016 7th Round Pick, 199th overall

  • 9/26 – 3 shots, 16:45 TOI
  • 9/28 – 1 shot, 14:21 TOI
  • 10/3 – 1 shot, 2 PIM, 15:52 TOI
  • 10/5 – 3 shots, 14:38 TOI/

Växjö is trusting Bernhardt more and more as the weeks go on. The points should come along with it.

Adam Ginning (D), Linköping HC (SHL)
2018 2nd Round Pick, 50th overall

Things aren’t going well for Ginning who, after getting decreased ice-time, was demoted to Linköping HC J20 in the SuperElit. Ginning has put up two goals and one assist in three games with the J20 club.

Olle Lycksell (RW/C), Linköping HC (SHL)
2017 6th Round Pick, 168th overall

  • 9/26 – 1 shot, 15:22 TOI
  • 9/28 – 1 assist, 15:40 TOI
  • 10/1 – 1 shot, 17:17 TOI
  • 10/3 – 1 goal, 2 shots, 14:22 TOI
  • 10/5 – 2 shots, 16:40 TOI/

While things haven’t gone well for Ginning, Lycksell has been excelling. The 20 year old is getting increased ice-time and has four points (2 G, 2 A) in nine games so far this season. He had all of 12 points (5 G, 7 A) in 51 last year.

Samuel Ersson (G), Brynäs IF (SHL)
2018 5th Round Pick, 143rd overall

  • 9/24 – 3 GA, 6 saves/

Ersson was pulled early from that 9/24 start and has not seen the ice since (three games).

Marcus Westfält (C), Västerviks IK (Allsvenskan)
2018 7th Round Pick, 205th overall

Marcus Westfält has one point (a goal) in seven games. Not exactly the start you’d like to see from him after struggling most of 2018-19.

Ivan Fedotov (G), Traktor Chelyabinsk (KHL)
2015 7th Round Pick, 188th overall

Fedotov is making the most of his KHL time, in which he has a .941 SV% in eight games. We might finally be seeing him breakout as a prospect.

Notable collegiate performers this week:

Bobby Brink (RW), University of Denver
2019 2nd Round Pick, 34th overall

  • 10/5 – 1 goal, 3 shots
  • 10/6 – 4 shots/

Bobby Brink begins his collegiate career with a goal! Brink had 68 points (35 G, 33 A) in 43 games in the USHL last season in a monster breakout as a prospect entering the draft.

NCAA Notes: Most of the remaining Flyers college prospects will be in official regular season action starting this weekend.
