Flyers prospect report: Bobby Brink and Wade Allison both go down with injuries

Welcome to BSH’s weekly prospect update, where we will be serving up stats and insight on what our homegrown players have been up to. This will include prospects in Canadian Juniors (BCHL, OHL, QMJHL & WHL), Europe (SHL, KHL), and NCAA college hockey. If you have any questions or suggestions, feel free to leave them in the comments.

Notable Canadian junior performers this week:

Jay O’Brien (C), Penticton Vees (BCHL)
2018 1st Round Pick, 19th overall

  • 2/14 – 1 goal
  • 2/15 – 1 assist, 2 PIM/

Wouldn’t it be funny if O’Brien blows up the NCAA next season with Boston U? Likely to happen? Probably not. He is at least not faltering in the BCHL and has 63 points (24 G, 39 A) in 44 games. He has the third highest point-per game in the league with 1.43.

Mason Millman (D), Saginaw Spirit (OHL)
2019 4th Round Pick, 103rd overall

  • 2/12 – 1 assist, 2 PIM
  • 2/14 – 1 goal, 3 shots
  • 2/15 – 2 shots, 2 PIM/

Millman’s breakout season continues as he increases his totals to 35 points (13 G, 22 A) in 50 contests. That ranks 17th among all OHL defensemen and 11th in goals to boot.

Yegor Serdyuk (RW), Victoriaville Tigres (QMJHL)
2019 6th Round Pick, 165th overall

  • 2/14 – 1 goal, 1 assist, 3 shots
  • 2/16 – 2 shots/

Serdyuk picks up his first goal since 1/29 and his first multi-point game since 1/26. The 2nd year QMJHLer has 35 points (14 G, 21 A) in 42 games in an injury-riddled season.

Wyatte Wylie (D), Everett Silvertips (WHL)
2018 5th Round Pick, 127th overall

  • 2/14 – 1 assist, 2 shots, 2 PIM
  • 2/15 – 1 assist/

Keep giving us those points. Wylie adds to his career-high season with 50 points (12 G, 38 A) in 52 games. That is fourth among WHL defensemen, nine points off the league-lead.

Egor Zamula (D), Calgary Hitmen (WHL)
Undrafted Free Agent

Some bad news in case you didn’t hear, it was announced that he will have to undergo back surgery and miss the rest of the season. Zamula will finish with 28 points (7 G, 21 A) in 28 games for Calgary.

Roddy Ross (G), Seattle Thunderbirds (WHL)
2019 6th Round Pick, 169th overall

  • 2/14 – 2 GA, 34 saves
  • 2/15 – 6 GA, 26 saves/

Seems like every week is like this, where there is both good and sometimes very bad for “Rowdy”. The second year WHLer has a .909 SV% in 42 games, which is a far cry from his .919 in 25 last season.

Notable European performers this week:

Linus Högberg (D), Växjö Lakers HC (SHL)
2016 5th Round Pick, 139th overall

  • 2/13 – 2 shots, 15:53 TOI
  • 2/15 – 1 assist, 1 shot, 17:26 TOI
  • 2/18 – 1 goal, 1 shot, 15:22 TOI/

These kind of weeks are great for The Hog given that he is still only getting third-pairing minutes. He is up to 13 points (5 G, 8 A) in 42 games, clearing his career-high of 10 in 52 games last season.

Olle Lycksell (RW/C), Linköping HC (SHL)
2017 6th Round Pick, 168th overall

  • 2/13 – 3 shots, 15:10 TOI
  • 2/15 – 2 shots, 14:01 TOI
  • 2/18 – 2 shots, 13:01 TOI/

Nothing on the scoresheet for Lycksell, but wasn’t for a lack of trying by the looks of his shot totals. Lycksell has 17 points (6 G, 11 A) in 41 games.

Adam Ginning (D), Linköping HC (SHL)
2018 2nd Round Pick, 50th overall

  • 2/13 – 11:50 TOI
  • 2/15 – 4 PIM, 04:53 TOI
  • 2/18 – 1 shot, 12:08 TOI/

Ginning returns from a four-game suspension and doesn’t do a whole lot.  He has one point (a goal) in 17 games in the SHL this season.

Samuel Ersson (G), Brynäs IF (SHL)
2018 5th Round Pick, 143rd overall

  • 2/13 – 1 GA, 30 saves
  • 2/15 – 5 GA, 28 saves
  • 2/18 – 3 GA, 25 saves/

A bit uneven week for the talented Ersson. In his first professional SHL season he has a .899 SV% in 28 games. That is 18th in the league FWIW.

Marcus Westfält (C), Västerviks IK (Allsvenskan)
2018 7th Round Pick, 205th overall

Marcus Westfält has seven points (three goals and three assists) in 46 games.

David Bernhardt (D), SaiPa (Liiga)
2016 7th Round Pick, 199th overall

Since transferring to Liiga, Bernhardt has put up one goal and four assists in 26 games.

Ivan Fedotov (G), Traktor Chelyabinsk (KHL)
2015 7th Round Pick, 188th overall

The 22 year old has a .925 SV% in 28 games this season in the KHL. That ranks him 21st among KHL netminders.

Notable collegiate performers this week:

Bobby Brink (RW), University of Denver
2019 2nd Round Pick, 34th overall

  • 2/14 – 1 goal, 2 shots
  • 2/15 – DNP/

The good news is he scored his 11th goal and 24th point during his freshman season. The bad news is he took this hit in the game as well. According to Meltzer he is only considered day-to-day so maybe we see him back this weekend, but that did not look pretty.

Wade Allison (RW), Western Michigan University
2016 2nd Round Pick, 52nd overall

  • 2/14 – 2 shots, 2 PIM, 0 for 1 FOW
  • 2/15 – DNP/

In other not so great news, the guy who has been prone to injury the past two seasons looks to have been injured again in Friday’s game just as he was beginning to find his stride in the offensive zone. No news on what may be the issue. Allison has 17 points (8 G, 9 A) in 20 games.

Tanner Laczynski (C), Ohio State University
2016 6th Round Pick, 169th overall

No games for OSU this weekend. The senior has 27 points (7 G, 20 A) in 30 games. It appears unlikely he will even approach his career-high from his sophomore season (47 in 41 games).

Noah Cates (LW), University of Minnesota-Duluth
2017 5th Round Pick, 137th overall

Cates and UMD were off this weekend. The impressive sophomore has 26 points (13 G, 13 A) in 28 games.

Bryce Brodzinski (RW), University of Minnesota
2019 7th Round Pick, 196th overall

  • 2/14 – 1 shot, 1 for 3 FOW
  • 2/15 – 2 shots/

After a short burst of offense a couple weeks ago, Brodzinski now sees his scoreless streak stretch to four games. The freshman has 10 points (6 G, 4 A) in 30 games.

Gavin Hain (C), University of North Dakota
2018 6th Round Pick, 174th overall

Hain sat out both games this weekend with an undisclosed injury, so the sophomore sits at 10 points (2 G, 8 A) in 26 games.

Cam York (D), University of Michigan
2019 1st Round Pick, 14th overall

  • 2/14 – 1 assist, 3 shots, 2 PIM
  • 2/17 – 1 assist/

The freshman keeps piling on the points and has 16 points (5 G, 11 A) in 24 games this season.

Wyatt Kalynuk (D), University of Wisconsin
2017 7th Round Pick, 196th overall

A rare weekend of being kept off the scoresheet for Kalynuk who will remain at 23 points (6 G, 17 A) in 23 games.

Ronnie Attard (D), Western Michigan University
2019 3rd Round Pick, 72nd overall

  • 2/14 – 2 assists, 1 shot
  • 2/15 – 0 shots, 2 PIM/

The underrated Attard has 12 points (6 G, 6 A) in 24 games in his freshman season.

Jack St. Ivany (D), Yale University
2018 4th Round Pick, 112nd overall

  • 2/14 – 3 shots
  • 2/15 – 1 assist, 1 shot, 2 PIM/

Assist number 13 for Ivany came on Saturday. The sophomore is up to 14 points in 25 games for Yale.
