Flyers prospect report: Linus Högberg scores his first goal of the season, Bobby Brink continues to impress

Welcome to BSH’s weekly prospect update, where we will be serving up stats and insight on what our homegrown players have been up to. This will include prospects in Canadian Juniors (BCHL, OHL, QMJHL & WHL), Europe (SHL, KHL), and NCAA college hockey. If you have any questions or suggestions, feel free to leave them in the comments.

Notable Canadian junior performers this week:

Jay O’Brien (C), Penticton Vees (BCHL)
2018 1st Round Pick, 19th overall

After tearing it up the last couple weeks, O’Brien has slowed down a bit. He has just one point in his last four games. Jay has 22 points (8 G, 14 A) in 15 games this season.

Mason Millman (D), Saginaw Spirit (OHL)
2019 4th Round Pick, 103rd overall

  • 10/16 – 1 shot
  • 10/18 – 1 goal, 3 assists, 3 shots
  • 10/19 – 1 goal, 1 shot, 2 PIM/

Millman FINALLY breaks out of his early-season slump where he had just one point in his first 11 games.

Yegor Serdyuk (RW), Victoriaville Tigres (QMJHL)
2019 6th Round Pick, 165th overall

  • 10/16 – 2 goals, 1 assist, 2 shots
  • 10/18 – 2 shots
  • 10/20 – 3 shots, 2 PIM/

Serdyuk’s incredible pace has slowed down in recent weeks, likely by this lower-body injury that kept him out a week or so. The 18 year old is still holding that point-per-game pace with 10 points (8 G, 2 A) in 10 games.

Wyatte Wylie (D), Everett Silvertips (WHL)
2018 5th Round Pick, 127th overall

  • 10/16 – 1 assist, 12 shots, 2 PIM
  • 10/18 – 1 assist, 5 shots, 2 PIM, 1 for 1 FOW
  • 10/19 – 4 shots/

Wylie is churning out shots on goal like Isaac Ratcliffe had done his last couple seasons of juniors. But even more impressively he is doing this as a defenseman. Wylie has eight points (2 G, 6 A) in 11 games on 47 shots.

Egor Zamula (D), Calgary Hitmen (WHL)
Undrafted Free Agent

  • 10/18 – 2 assists, 6 shots
  • 10/20 – 1 assist, 4 shots/

I’m going to say it…a 1.44 point-per-game pace is really good. Shocking! Zamula is making quick work of the WHL this season with 13 points (4 G, 9 A) in nine games.

Roddy Ross (G), Seattle Thunderbirds (WHL)
2019 6th Round Pick, 169th overall

  • 10/18 – 3 GA, 38 saves
  • 10/19 – 2 GA, 39 saves/

A nice weekend for ‘Rowdy Roddy’ who has settled down after a few brutal starts in the last couple weeks. Ross holds a .910 SV% through eight games.

Notable European performers this week:

Linus Högberg (D), Växjö Lakers HC (SHL)
2016 5th Round Pick, 139th overall

  • 10/17 – 1 goal, 1 assist, 1 shot, 23:11 TOI
  • 10/19 – 4 shots, 19:45 TOI/

It fun when the offense comes for The Hog. IMO he is the most talented defenseman they have oversees (Sorry David, Adam). He has three points (1 G, 2 A) in 12 points this season while playing the most 5-on-5 even strength minutes among team team.

David Bernhardt (D), Växjö Lakers HC (SHL)
2016 7th Round Pick, 199th overall

Bernhardt remains out with an undisclosed injury.

Adam Ginning (D), Linköping HC (SHL)
2018 2nd Round Pick, 50th overall

  • 10/17 – 03:36 TOI
  • 10/19 – 1 shot, 07:12 TOI/

Ginning has found himself as basically the 7th defensemen on his team this season. Not a great development for the rugged stay-at-home defenseman.

Olle Lycksell (RW/C), Linköping HC (SHL)
2017 6th Round Pick, 168th overall

  • 10/17 – 2 shots, 14:59 TOI
  • 10/19 – 1 shot, 16:29 TOI/

Quiet week for Lycksell who has had a great season with seven points (3 G, 4 A) in 12 games.

Samuel Ersson (G), Brynäs IF (SHL)
2018 5th Round Pick, 143rd overall

Ersson did not play in either Brynas’ two games this week. The SHL rookie has struggled to the tune of a .849 SV% in four games.

Marcus Westfält (C), Västerviks IK (Allsvenskan)
2018 7th Round Pick, 205th overall

Marcus Westfält has one point (a goal) in 11 games.

Ivan Fedotov (G), Traktor Chelyabinsk (KHL)
2015 7th Round Pick, 188th overall

Fedotov is making the most of his KHL time, in which he has a .935 SV% in nine games.

Notable collegiate performers this week:

Bobby Brink (RW), University of Denver
2019 2nd Round Pick, 34th overall

  • 10/18 – 2 shots, 2 PIM
  • 10/19 – 1 goal, 1 assist, 2 shots, 2 PIM/

Brink is now a point-per-game player as a freshman in the NCAA. You know who was also a point-per-game player in his freshman season last year? Yup, the guy they called up to the Flyers yesterday…Joel Farabee. Here is Brink’s goal from Saturday.

Wade Allison (RW), Western Michigan University
2016 2nd Round Pick, 52nd overall

WMU dropped back-to-back 2-1 losses to Bowling Green this weekend. Allison sits at one point (a goal) in four games.

Tanner Laczynski (C), Ohio State University
2016 6th Round Pick, 169th overall

  • 10/18 – 1 goal, 2 assists, 4 shots
  • 10/19 – 9 shots/

A great weekend for Laczynski which saw him pick up his first goal of the season. The senior has four points (1 G, 3 A) in four games this season. He’ll need to keep up the pace (and then some) if he hopes to secure college’s top honors this season.

Noah Cates (LW), University of Minnesota-Duluth
2017 5th Round Pick, 137th overall

  • 10/18 – 3 shots
  • 10/19 – 1 goal, 2 shots, 0 for 2 FOW/

Cates is looking like he might have a breakout season. I know it’s early, but he has three points (2 G, 1 A) in four games. Here is his goal from Saturday.

Bryce Brodzinski (RW), University of Minnesota
2019 7th Round Pick, 196th overall

No points this weekend for Brodzinski who had one point in his first four collegiate games.

Gavin Hain (C), University of North Dakota
2018 6th Round Pick, 174th overall

After notching a pair of assists in the opening weekend last week, the sophomore is kept on the score-sheet.

Cam York (D), University of Michigan
2019 1st Round Pick, 14th overall

York is still sitting out with a suspected ankle injury. Some may speculate he is sad he can’t play with Brendan Warren.

Wyatt Kalynuk (D), University of Wisconsin
2017 7th Round Pick, 196th overall

Kalynuk still doesn’t have his first goal of the season, but he does have five assists in five games. He is going to get a lot of those playing with top prospects Cole Caulfield and Alex Turcotte.

Ronnie Attard (D), Western Michigan University
2019 3rd Round Pick, 72nd overall

Similar to his teammate Wade Allison, he also had just one point (a goal) in four games.

Jack St. Ivanny (D), Yale University
2018 4th Round Pick, 112nd overall

Yale’s season begins on November 1st.
