Flyers prospect report: Noah Cates might be the Flyers breakout forward prospect

Notable Canadian junior performers this week:

Jay O’Brien (C), Penticton Vees (BCHL)
2018 1st Round Pick, 19th overall

Missing two games with an injury last week, the non-prospect is holding at 47 points (15 G, 32 A) in 33 games.

Mason Millman (D), Saginaw Spirit (OHL)
2019 4th Round Pick, 103rd overall

Weird week for Millman who got a five-minute major and a game misconduct in Friday’s game for an apparent head-check. No word if the reason he sat out Saturday is any sort of suspension related to that incident. Millman has 15 points (6 G, 9 A) in 28 games this season.

Yegor Serdyuk (RW), Victoriaville Tigres (QMJHL)
2019 6th Round Pick, 165th overall

  • 12/5 – DNP
  • 12/7 – 1 assist, 2 shots
  • 12/8 – 6 shots, 2 PIM, 1 for 1 FOW/

Serdyuk is FINALLY back after missing a few weeks with an injury. After a promising start to the season, a slump and injuries have really slowed him down. The 2nd year QMJHLer has 14 points (8 G, 6 A) in 20 games.

Wyatte Wylie (D), Everett Silvertips (WHL)
2018 5th Round Pick, 127th overall

  • 12/6 – 1 shot, 2 PIM
  • 12/7 – 1 assist, 3 shots
  • 12/8 – 1 goal, 2 shots/

Nearly a point-per-game week for Wylie who keeps impressing, putting up 25 points (8 G, 17 A) in 28 games. He is sixth in the WHL in scoring among defensemen.

Egor Zamula (D), Calgary Hitmen (WHL)
Undrafted Free Agent

  • 12/6 – 3 shots
  • 12/7 – 1 assist, 2 shots
  • 12/8 – 1 goal, 1 assist, 2 shots/

Zamula remains on pace to set career-highs in goals and points before the season is over. The talented D-man has 28 points (7 G, 21 A) in 28 games, putting him third in WHL scoring among defensemen and just six points off the lead.

Roddy Ross (G), Seattle Thunderbirds (WHL)
2019 6th Round Pick, 169th overall

  • 12/3 – 4 GA, 37 saves
  • 12/7 – 3 GA, 18 saves/

Another tough week for Rowdy which saw him getting pulled from the game on Saturday. The 2nd year WHLer has a .910 SV% in 21 games and seems to have regressed from his rookie season.

Notable European performers this week:

Linus Högberg (D), Växjö Lakers HC (SHL)
2016 5th Round Pick, 139th overall

  • 12/5 – 16:19 TOI
  • 12/7 – 1 goal, 1 shot, 17:37 TOI/

While the time-on-ice has been decreasing lately, the offense is coming along slowly. The Hog notched his third goal of the season, giving him seven points on the season in 24 games.

Olle Lycksell (RW/C), Linköping HC (SHL)
2017 6th Round Pick, 168th overall

  • 12/5 – 1 shot, 15:24 TOI
  • 12/7 – 1 shot, 15:24 TOI/

That is not a typo above, he actually somehow repeated the same boxscore two games in a row. The emerging 20 year old winger has 12 points (3 G, 9 A) in 24 games.

Samuel Ersson (G), Brynäs IF (SHL)
2018 5th Round Pick, 143rd overall

  • 12/7 – 3 GA, 15 saves/

Ersson only got into one game this week, but wasn’t exactly sharp. The 20 year old has a .890 SV% in 11 games in his first SHL season so far.

Since transferring to Liiga, Bernhardt has put up one assist in 10 games.

Ivan Fedotov (G), Traktor Chelyabinsk (KHL)
2015 7th Round Pick, 188th overall

The 22 year old has a .934 SV% in 15 games this season in the KHL. That ranks him 11th among KHL netminders.

Notable collegiate performers this week:

Bobby Brink (RW), University of Denver
2019 2nd Round Pick, 34th overall

  • 12/6 – 3 shots
  • 12/7 – 4 shots, 2 PIM/

Quiet week for the talented freshman. Brink remains at 11 points (6 G, 5 A) in 16 games.

Wade Allison (RW), Western Michigan University
2016 2nd Round Pick, 52nd overall

Do I sound like a broken record? Wade Allison is still out of the lineup for WMU.

Tanner Laczynski (C), Ohio State University
2016 6th Round Pick, 169th overall

A point is something, I guess. Laczynski hasn’t exactly lit the NCAA world on fire with a barrage of offense in his final collegiate season. He has 15 points (5 G, 10 A) in 16 games, sitting just outside the top-50 in scoring.

Noah Cates (LW), University of Minnesota-Duluth
2017 5th Round Pick, 137th overall

  • 12/6 – 2 goals, 1 assist, 4 shots, 4 for 7 FOW
  • 12/7 – 1 assist, 3 shots, 4 PIM, 3 for 4 FOW/

Cates and UMD beat up on a poor Omaha squad this weekend. Cates has looked spectacular overall on the season and has 16 points (9 G, 7 A) in 16 games in his sophomore season. Check out his goals here and here.

Bryce Brodzinski (RW), University of Minnesota
2019 7th Round Pick, 196th overall

  • 12/6 – 3 shots, 2 PIM
  • 12/7 – 3 shots, 2 PIM/

Brodzinski was consistent, if anything, this weekend. The freshman has five points (1 G, 4 A) in 18 games.

Gavin Hain (C), University of North Dakota
2018 6th Round Pick, 174th overall

  • 12/6 – 1 goal, 1 shot
  • 12/7 – 1 shot/

Gavin Hain breaks his scoring slump and scores the OT-winner in Friday night’s game. The sophomore has just four points (2 G, 2 A) in 16 games.

Cam York (D), University of Michigan
2019 1st Round Pick, 14th overall

  • 12/6 – 1 goal, 1 assist, 4 shots, 2 PIM
  • 12/7 – 0 shots/

York had a fantastic game against a good Penn State squad on Friday, notching goal and assist number four and five, respectively. He is first in scoring among U19 defensemen in NCAA. Here is pots his own rebound.

Wyatt Kalynuk (D), University of Wisconsin
2017 7th Round Pick, 196th overall

  • 12/6 – 7 shots, 4 PIM
  • 12/7 – 1 goal, 7 shots, 2 PIM/

14 shots in two games is fairly impressive. Kalynuk has four goals and 10 assists on 62 shots in 18 games this season. Here is his goal from Saturday.

Ronnie Attard (D), Western Michigan University
2019 3rd Round Pick, 72nd overall

Attard sits out yet another weekend set of games with an undisclosed injury. The freshman has five points (4 G, 1 A) in 10 games.

Jack St. Ivany (D), Yale University
2018 4th Round Pick, 112nd overall

Not a bad start to the season for St. Ivany, who has six points (all assists) in 11 games with Yale.
