Flyers prospect report: Noah Cates and Wade Allison score goals this weekend

Welcome to BSH’s weekly prospect update, where we will be serving up stats and insight on what our homegrown players have been up to. This will include prospects in Canadian Juniors (BCHL, OHL, QMJHL & WHL), Europe (SHL, KHL), and NCAA college hockey. If you have any questions or suggestions, feel free to leave them in the comments.

Notable Canadian junior performers this week:

Jay O’Brien (C), Penticton Vees (BCHL)
2018 1st Round Pick, 19th overall

  • 2/5 – 2 goals
  • 2/7 – 1 goal, 1 assist, 2 PIM
  • 2/9 – 1 assist/

At the very least O’Brien has proven he is way too good for the BCHL as he awaits his NCAA transfer to go through. 61 points (23 G, 38 A) in 42 games ain’t too shabby even if he is above the skill-level of the league.

Mason Millman (D), Saginaw Spirit (OHL)
2019 4th Round Pick, 103rd overall

  • 2/7 – 1 assist, 2 shots
  • 2/8 – 3 shots/

It hasn’t been a scoring bonanza for Millman lately. He has 33 points (12 G, 21 A) in 47 games this season, blowing past his career-high from last season of 25.

Yegor Serdyuk (RW), Victoriaville Tigres (QMJHL)
2019 6th Round Pick, 165th overall

  • 2/6 – 1 assist, 1 shot
  • 2/7 – 1 shot
  • 2/8 – 1 assist, 1 shot, 2 PIM/

Serdyuk falls further and further behind his point-per-game pace he put up last season (65 points in 63 games). The 2nd year WHLer has 33 points (13 G, 20 A) in 40 games while missing time due to injury.

Wyatte Wylie (D), Everett Silvertips (WHL)
2018 5th Round Pick, 127th overall

  • 2/7 – 1 goal, 1 assist, 3 shots
  • 2/8 – 2 assists, 6 shots
  • 2/9 – 2 shots, 2 PIM/

Another excellent weekend for Wylie who set a new career-high of 48 points (12 G, 36 A), surpassing his 47 points last season in 17 less games so far.

Egor Zamula (D), Calgary Hitmen (WHL)
Undrafted Free Agent

Some bad news in case you didn’t hear, it was announced that he will have to undergo back surgery and miss the rest of the season. Zamula will finish with 28 points (7 G, 21 A) in 28 games for Calgary.

Roddy Ross (G), Seattle Thunderbirds (WHL)
2019 6th Round Pick, 169th overall

  • 2/4 – 5 GA, 33 saves
  • 2/5 – 1 GA, 24 saves
  • 2/9 – 1 GA, 33 saves/

A pretty good week for the 2nd year WHLer who saw his season SV% rise to .911 in 40 games this season.

Notable European performers this week:

Linus Högberg (D), Växjö Lakers HC (SHL)
2016 5th Round Pick, 139th overall

No games for SHL this week, so The Hog remains at 11 points (4 G, 7 A) in 38 games this season with the points being a career-high through four-ish SHL seasons.

Olle Lycksell (RW/C), Linköping HC (SHL)
2017 6th Round Pick, 168th overall

Lycksell has 17 points (6 G, 11 A) in 37 games. I think the Flyers have found a draft-steal.

Adam Ginning (D), Linköping HC (SHL)
2018 2nd Round Pick, 50th overall

Adam Ginning would still be serving out his four game suspension for this hit even if the SHL wasn’t off.

Samuel Ersson (G), Brynäs IF (SHL)
2018 5th Round Pick, 143rd overall

The talented 20 year old netminder has a .896 SV% through 24 games in his first SHL season.

Marcus Westfält (C), Västerviks IK (Allsvenskan)
2018 7th Round Pick, 205th overall

Marcus Westfält has six points (three goals and three assists) in 44 games.

David Bernhardt (D), SaiPa (Liiga)
2016 7th Round Pick, 199th overall

Since transferring to Liiga, Bernhardt has put up one goal and three assists in 24 games.

Ivan Fedotov (G), Traktor Chelyabinsk (KHL)
2015 7th Round Pick, 188th overall

The 22 year old has a .926 SV% in 26 games this season in the KHL. That ranks him 21st among KHL netminders.

Notable collegiate performers this week:

Bobby Brink (RW), University of Denver
2019 2nd Round Pick, 34th overall

No games for Denver this week. The impressive freshman has 23 points (10 G, 13 A) in 27 games and ranks fourth behind Alex Newhook, Trevor Zegras and Cole Caulfield among players 19 and younger.

Wade Allison (RW), Western Michigan University
2016 2nd Round Pick, 52nd overall

  • 2/7 – 1 goal, 1 assist, 2 shots, 0 for 1 FOW
  • 2/8 – 1 shot/

For Allison, the points keep coming, albeit against lesser competition. Nevertheless, he has seven goals and six goals in his last eight games. Overall Allison is sitting at 17 points (8 G, 9 A) in 19 games.

Tanner Laczynski (C), Ohio State University
2016 6th Round Pick, 169th overall

  • 2/7 – 1 shot, 2 PIM
  • 2/8 – 1 assist, 3 shots, 2 PIM/

Another quiet weekend for Laczynski. The senior has 27 points (7 G, 20 A) in 30 games. It appears unlikely he will even approach his career-high from his sophomore season (47 in 41 games).

Noah Cates (LW), University of Minnesota-Duluth
2017 5th Round Pick, 137th overall

  • 2/7 – 1 goal, 3 shots, 1 for 2 FOW
  • 2/8 – 3 shots/

Cates saw his five-game point streak come to an end on Saturday. The impressive sophomore has 26 points (13 G, 13 A) in 28 games. Check out his goal here.

Bryce Brodzinski (RW), University of Minnesota
2019 7th Round Pick, 196th overall

  • 2/7 – 4 shots
  • 2/8 – 2 shots, 3 for 6 FOW/

Brodzinski had his three-game goal scoring streak conclude on Friday and was promptly shutout on the scoresheet on the weekend. He remains at 10 points (6 G, 4 A) in 28 games.

Gavin Hain (C), University of North Dakota
2018 6th Round Pick, 174th overall

  • 1/31 – 3 shots, 2 PIM
  • 2/1 – 0 shots/

Hain and UND were off this week, so the sophomore sits at 10 points (2 G, 8 A) in 26 games.

Cam York (D), University of Michigan
2019 1st Round Pick, 14th overall

  • 2/7 – 2 assists, 1 shot
  • 2/8 – 1 shot/

Not a bad weekend for the freshman who contributed in Michigan’s trouncing of Kalynuk’s Wisconsin in both games. York has 14 points (5 G, 9 A) in 22 games.

Wyatt Kalynuk (D), University of Wisconsin
2017 7th Round Pick, 196th overall

  • 2/7 – 1 assist, 3 shots, 2 PIM
  • 2/8 – 2 shots/

A lackluster weekend for everyone on Wisconsin who lost both games against Michigan (Fri 8-4, Sat 5-3). However, Kalynuk moved closer to matching his career-high of 25 points. He is up to 23 (6 G, 17 A) in 28 games.

Ronnie Attard (D), Western Michigan University
2019 3rd Round Pick, 72nd overall

  • 2/7 – 1 assist, 5 shots
  • 2/8 – 0 shots/

A relatively quiet weekend for Attard and surprising given that WMU obliterated Rensselear in both games. Attard has 10 points (6 G, 4 A) in 22 games.

Jack St. Ivany (D), Yale University
2018 4th Round Pick, 112nd overall

  • 2/7 – 1 assist, 3 shots
  • 2/8 – 3 shots/

Recent polls show me that Yale lost to Quinnipiac 3-2, though St. Ivany picked up his 13th assist of the season and 14th point overall in 23 games.
