Although the NHL usually releases its full regular season schedule the day before the NHL Draft, the Flyers today announced their preseason schedule for the 2024-25 season with seven games slated.
The Flyers begin the preseason against the Washington Capitals for an afternoon tilt (3 p.m. Eastern) at Washington’s Capital One Arena on Sept. 22. It’s the same Capitals who broke the hearts of Flyers fans last season (as well as Detroit) by scoring an empty net goal to secure their playoff spot in the last game of the year at Wells Fargo Center. The Flyers travel to Montreal to play an evening game on Sept. 23.
The seven games include four away games and three played at Wells Fargo Center. The first home game is against the New York Islanders on Sept. 26 while the Islanders host the Flyers on Sept. 30 at UBS Arena. It’s not the only team the Flyers will face twice as the Boston Bruins will battle Philadelphia on Sept. 28 at Wells Fargo Centre before Boston hosts the Flyers on Oct. 1. The preseason slate concludes with a home game against the New Jersey Devils on Oct. 3.
Although it’s never indicative of what the regular season could hold, the preseason is always a great time to see Flyers prospects who might be on the cusp of making the team perform while allowing others a game or two of action before they are cut from camp, often returning to their junior team or being assigned to either the ECHL or the AHL. The Flyers played six games last preseason with three home-and-home series against Boston, the Islanders and the Devils. The Flyers went 3-2-1 in the preseason which started with a 6-0 loss to New Jersey and ended with a 5-2 win over the Islanders.
Ticket information for the home dates will be announced at a later date. Of course depending on what happens in the coming weeks it could possibly be the first time fans could see Matvei Michkov take to the ice wearing a Flyers uniform in game action (or as much “game action” as can be found in preseason competition). Or possibly seeing Oliver Bonk or Denver Barkey in game action, offering up hope of what’s in the pipeline and coming on the horizon.
Like any preseason, the goal is to remain healthy, get some rust off from the summer and be ready to hit the ground running when the 82-game regular season begins. So while not earth-shattering news, it’s nice to know exactly when the Flyers take to the ice again.
