Sharks dominate Flyers in lackluster showing

Three Stars

1. L

2. O

3. L

What? The entire team went to sleep when that’s all any of us who watched this game wanted to do, so no stars for anyone. Although, thank you Ivan Provorov for the lone goal, at least gave us like five seconds of hope, and being one of the very few players who looked like they gave a damn. I guess Nicolas Aube-Kubel did as well, so good on you, NAK.

Answering the bell

1. Can we get a bit of opportunism?

A big fat NOPE. On paper, this was absolutely a game the Flyers should have won, but didn’t. Passes weren’t crisp all night, and they couldn’t bury the few good chances they actually had. This was all around a poor effort from the team tonight, and I’d expect Alain Vigneault will let them know that and fix it for tonight’s tilt vs. Anaheim. It’s been rare this season where I’ve been disappointed in the team’s overall effort, but this was one of those times. It seemed as though once San Jose got out to a 2-0 lead, they just kinda … stopped the intensity.

To be fair, I was also half-asleep while watching most of this because it started at 10 friggin 30, so take my opinion with that in mind.

2. Is this thing on?

Nope, the power play is still a bit of a mess. They had some decent looks but overall the sloppiness proved too much to overcome. At some point, they’ll need the man advantage to be consistently good at the very least, but that simply isn’t the case right now. We’ve seen them go through brief stings of success, but seemingly never a consistent stretch of strong play. As Maddie mentioned in the preview, this has to change sooner rather than later.

Play of the game

It’s the Provorov goal because ah, well, I don’t know what the hell else it would be.
