It’s been a busy weekend for the Flyers. Between wrapping up their annual Development Camp last night and promptly signing their newest first round pick Jett Luchanko to his Entry Level Contract before he left town, they had enough on their hands. But, it seems, they weren’t done yet. The Flyers announced this morning that they’ve signed Egor Zamula to a two-year contract extension.
This contract will have him locked up through the 2026-27 season, and carries an average annual value of $1.7 million. And with Bobby Brink having also gotten his extension signed last week, this means that the Flyers have officially taken care of all of their business, having re-signed all of their pending RFAs already.
Zamula is coming off of something of an up and down season. He earned a spot on the Flyers’ roster out of camp (though this was likely a decision aided by the fact that was no longer waivers exempt), but still worked himself into the coaching staff’s good graces and earned a spot in the regular defense rotation. But he wasn’t perfect — after a strong start, his form began to drop off a bit, and we saw more mistakes beginning to crop up, and his position in the rotation became less solid.
So we closed out the season in more or less the same spot we began, with regards to Zamula — that is, with questions about his ability to stick as an NHL regular. The Flyers are pretty flush with options to fill one of the depth roles in the defense corps next season, with Erik Johnson re-signed, Nick Seeler healthy, and each of Adam Ginning, Ronnie Attard, and Emil Andrae each looking primed to make the jump and a real run at one of those spots as well. Zamula will have to bring his A-game, and we’ll have a really interesting battle to watch when camp comes around.
