The Philadelphia Flyers just lost their leading goalscorer after he did something that he’s been doing all season long. It’s just so classic Flyers.
In the middle of the second period of the Flyers hosting the rival Pittsburgh Penguins, winger Tyson Foerster went for a powerful one-timer during a 5-on-3 power play. With all the weight behind him to try and earn his team the lead in a fairly important game, to try to wire the puck past Tristan Jarry and give the Flyers the advantage, something tweaked in his arm and he immediately went down to the ice clutching his right shoulder or upper arm.
It did not look good.
Tyson Foerster just got hurt taking a one timer and man it does not look good. Hope for the best 🙏#LetsGoFlyers pic.twitter.com/Tlr087Ydck

Injuries caused by a massive collision of bodies on the ice, or something as obvious as a bad twisted ankle or something like that, is one thing, but to have an injury happen without any contact from the opposing team and to have it so clearly happen to such an important part of a hockey player’s body like the shoulder (or upper arm) is simply terrifying.
After Foerster left the game, the Flyers quickly announced that he will not be returning to the game. While we all expected it, it was at least made official.
Loss of Tyson Foerster could not be at a worse time for Flyers
To make matters even worse or at least make it sting a little bit more in the hearts of Flyers fans all over the world, just seconds before, on a delayed penalty during an earlier 5-on-3 power play (the Penguins decided to take a whole lot of penalties within the same minute), Foerster scored the Flyers’ only goal of the game at the time of writing. And, it was from the very same spot on the ice in which he crumbled down to the ice with a hurt upper body.
And it’s not like this was Foerster’s first goal in forever, either.
In the five games prior to Monday night, the 23-year-old scored four goals and adding his tally against the Penguins (before the worst thing in the world happened) makes it 10 on the season and the team lead in the statistic.
We will learn more about Foerster’s injury after the game, but as of now the best-case scenario appears to be that the injury is just some minor dislocation or a little bit of a tweak. And the Flyers just felt like it was best for all parties to keep him out for the rest of the contest instead of risk something else to happen for a December game with lots of dates remaining. If that happens, maybe we could expect Foerster to not even miss any time.
The worst-case scenario? Well some sort of tendon just snapped in half or something and even after missing the beginning of the season due to an awkward infection caused from an offseason injury, Foerster misses another couple of months (or even more). Let’s just not ever think about that again unless it becomes reality.
Tyson Foerster has 10 goals and 13 points in 21 games this season and has been one of the best two-way wingers in the entire league. So, it would be a substantial loss for the Flyers — but again, let’s not think about that.
