We’re back! After a few days off, it’s time to jump back into some picks. The Flyers face the Carolina Hurricanes tonight, this time in Carolina. Predictions
Betting on Philadelphia Flyers hockey is extremely frustrating in times like these. The team is plagued by unpredictability such that in one week, the Flyers can put up 5 goals against the Buffalo Sabres, and in the next, they can fail to score more than 1 goal against the San Jose Sharks. It is pathetic and infuriating.
The primary problem lies in the fact that the organization is rebuilding. Thus, while the expectations are extremely low and losses are welcome, there are some genuinely good components to the roster that occasionally shine. Will Travis Konecny score two goals, or will he be invisible? No one knows, but both options are equally likely.
For Draftkings Sportsbook, the outcome of this game is all but determined as Carolina is favored to win by more than one goal. Interestingly, the Over (six goals) carries mediocre -120 odds, hinting that this could be a low scoring affair. Logically, the only way for Carolina to win while still hitting the Under is for the score to hover around 4-1 or worse. If the odds prove true, the Flyers would not score more than 1 goal–i.e. a final score of 4-2 would push the Over/Under.
So here’s the question: If we all agree that Carolina will win the game (which is more than likely) do we think the Flyers squeak out more than one goal? If so, we are betting the over, or we are taking the Flyers Puck Line. If not, we are betting the under, or we are taking the Hurricanes Puck Line. BSH is avoiding both scenarios. Here are our picks.
Picks
Neither Team to Score 5 goals (-165)
- Regardless of whether we like the Over or the Under, it seems extremely unlikely that either team reaches 5 goals on the game. Usually, these odds would hover around the -200s, but Draftkings seems to believe that one team has a shot of putting up big numbers. We simply like the yield on these odds.
Flyers 1st Period Goals Over .5 (-130)
- Over the last week, the Flyers failed to hit this bet on a couple of occasions. As with any bet, the lack of 1st Period productivity might raise concern that the offensive success is starting to wane. However, for those who see the glass as half full, occasional failure presents an opportunity for higher yielding odds. No doubt, if there were any game in which the Flyers might struggle offensively, it would be a game against the Hurricanes, but these odds are too good to pass up.
BSH Pick Record
7-9
