Friday Morning Fly By: There goes the big brain on Brad

Today’s open discussion thread, complete with your daily dose of Philadelphia Flyers news and notes.

*So we got the news early yesterday evening that Brad Shaw will not be returning to the Flyers organization next year. That, unequivocally, stinks. [BSH]

*This news was broken by our old pal Charles O’Connor, who dove into the news first. [PHLY]

*And just like we were getting the full-court media press on Tocchet when things were just rumored, we’re getting pressed even harder as The Beats work to make us rethink this whole “former Flyers” thing. [Inquirer]

*We should just give him a shot! Which like, yeah. Obviously we all want it to work. Doesn’t change the fact that he played here and is a friend of the dudes running the org. [NBC Sports Philly]

*Besides, there are so many other reasons Rick Tocchet is a great fit for this job! [The Athletic]

*This is all very funny when you consider that the Flyers themselves CANNOT STOP mentioning the fact that Tocchet played here:

*A couple of the Flyers’ veteran players are pretty excited to play for Tocc. That’s cool. [Flyers]

*Anyway, other stuff. The Flyers made another move to shore up with AHL dept, re-signing Phantoms forward Oscar Eklind. [BSH]

*Up at #19 on the BSH Community Draft Board is a kid that will likely be one of those late-round steals you’re always hoping your team will stumble into. [BSH]

*The Oilers have made their way back to the Western Conference Final, and you’ll probably want to know how this affects the Flyers. [BSH]

*And finally, the Leafs have found themselves on the brink, once again. What’s the DEAL with this team?? “They just don’t have that dawg” feels like lazy analysis. It’s weird that they blow it like this year after year, right? [Sportsnet]
