Giroux named NHL’s Third Star of the week

Hey, they recognized Claude!

The Philadelphia Flyers are currently on a six-game point streak and a lot of that is due to Claude Giroux. Over the last week the Orange and Black’s captain has produced eight points in three games to earn the honor of being named the Third Star of the NHL’s Three Stars of the week ending November 11.

Here’s what NHL Public Relations had to say about Giroux earning Third Star of the week:

Giroux paced the NHL with 3-5-8 and a +8 rating in three games to lift the Flyers (9-7-1, 19 points) to a perfect week and into second place in the Metropolitan Division. He recorded three straight multi-point outings, logging 2-1-3 in a 5-2 victory over the Arizona Coyotes Nov. 5, two assists (including a helper on the overtime winner) in a 5-4 triumph against the Coyotes Nov. 8 and 1-2-3 in a 4-0 win over the Chicago Blackhawks Nov. 10. The final game marked the 50th three-point performance of his career (all w/ PHI), making Giroux the ninth player in Flyers history to achieve the feat. The 30-year-old Hearst, Ont., native paces Philadelphia and sits seventh in the NHL with 7-15-22 in 17 contests this season.

After he endured a three-game point drought during the Flyers’ three-game losing streak towards the end of October, Giroux has potted four goals and accrued seven assists for 11 points in the last six games. In that span, Giroux has two three-point games (as mentioned above) and a pair of two-point games, as he had two-assist performances against the Anaheim Ducks on October 30th and against the Coyotes on Thursday.

First Star of the week was David Pastrnak of the Boston Bruins, who had five goals and seven points in four games. Second was Winnipeg’s Blake Wheeler, who had six assists in seven points in two games.

This is the first time this season a Flyer has been recognized as one of the league’s Three Stars of the week and the first time since Giroux was named the Third Star during the last week of the 2017-18 regular season. Giroux was also named the league’s First Star of the week for the week of February 12th last season. The last Flyer not named Giroux to be mentioned as one of the league’s Three Stars was Brian Elliott, who was named the Third Star for the week of December 11 and Second Star for the week of December 18.
