Carter Hart named Second Star of the Week

It isn’t just Philadelphia Flyers’ fans who are recognizing how well Carter Hart is playing. After he was named the NHL’s Rookie of the Month honors for January just a few days ago, Hart has now been named the Second Star of the Week across the league for the week ending on February 3rd.

Here’s what the league’s PR department had to say about Hart being named a star this week:

Hart went 3-0-0 with a 2.27 goals-against average and .931 save percentage to help the Flyers (23-23-6, 52 points) register a perfect 4-0-0 week and extend the NHL’s longest active winning streak to seven games. He began the week by making 31 saves in a 3-1 victory over the Winnipeg Jets on Jan. 28. On Jan. 31 he stopped 23 shots in a 3-2 overtime win over the Boston Bruins and capped the week with a career-high 40 save performance in a 5-4 overtime victory over the Edmonton Oilers on Feb. 2. In doing so, the 20-year-old native of Sherwood Park, Alta., extended his personal win streak to six games, becoming the sixth goaltender in NHL history to record a personal win streak as long before celebrating his 21st birthday and first since Montreal’s Carey Price in 2007-08 (7-0-0).

To go along with his career high in saves against the Oilers on Saturday, Hart provided possibly his best save in the NHL up to this point. In his 15 games of NHL action dating back to December 18th against the Detroit Red Wings, Hart has gone 9-5-1 with a .921 save percentage and 2.58 goals against average. Of those 15 contests, Hart has allowed two goals or less in eight appearances. Combine these numbers with the fact Hart has made most of the fan base talk about a possible miracle run to a playoff berth rather than tanking for Jack Hughes, and it’s easy to understand why we’re excited for this kid.

As for the other two Stars of the Week, the Winnipeg Jets’ Jack Roslovic was named the First Star with five goals and six points in four games (including a hat trick on Saturday against the Anaheim Ducks) while Mika Zibanejad was named the Third Star with six points in three games (including a hat trick against the New Jersey Devils on January 31st).
