Ivan Provorov named WHL Defenceman of the Year

The WHL Final is set to begin on May 6. In it, the Brandon Wheat Kings will take on the Seattle Thunderbirds for the Ed Chynoweth Cup, not to mention the right to play for the Memorial Cup.

But before we get to that, first, it’s time for the WHL Awards. And hey, there’s a very familiar face in there, and one of the guys who will be sure to play a big role in the Final: Philadelphia Flyers seventh overall pick Ivan Provorov.

He has won the Bill Hunter Trophy as the WHL Defenceman of the Year. (With a “C”, because it’s Canada, after all.)

(He looks so badass! Just wait until he trades in the yellow for orange.)

This wasn’t an unexpected award for him to win. He was already named the top defenseman in the WHL’s Eastern Conference, was the only player unanimously selected to the Eastern Conference All-Star Team, and won the Plus-Minus award with a +64.

After this season, there really isn’t anything left for him to do in junior, is there?
