According to Jeff Cox of the New England Hockey Journal Philadelphia Flyers’ prospect Jack St. Ivany has entered the NCAA’s transfer portal with the intention of joining Boston College. The defenseman, who has yet to play a game in the 2020-21 season, would be eligible to play for the Eagles once the first semester is over. Brad Elliott Schlossman of the Grand Forks Herald had the original news on St. Ivany entering the transfer portal.

‘Yale lost a top-pairing defenseman when Jack St. Ivany entered the NCAA Transfer Portal, likely to head to Boston College. The Manhattan Beach, Calif., native would be eligible to play for the Eagles once the first semester is over. St. Ivany was a fourth-round pick of the Philadelphia Flyers in the 2018 NHL draft.’
The decision comes after the Yale Bulldogs and the rest of the Ivy League cancelled all winter sports for this season due to COVID-19 concerns. Rather than sit out the rest of the 2020-21 campaign it seems as though St. Ivany has chosen the option to partake in his junior season now rather than in 2021-22. With this decision it means the Flyers still have until August 15, 2022 to sign the prospect to an entry-level deal.
Selected 112th overall in the fourth round of the 2018 NHL Entry Draft, St. Ivany played in 62 games for the Bulldogs over the 2018-19 and 2019-20 seasons. After he registered six goals and eight assists for 14 points in 30 games his freshman campaign the blue liner lit the lamp once and provided 15 helpers for 16 tallies in 32 contests his sophomore year to lead Yale’s d-men in scoring. His lowly goal total came on 71 shots on net in 2019-20, as he also recorded 18 penalty minutes and a minus-10 rating. St. Ivany also finished second on the team with 189 shot attempts in all situations behind Justin Pearson’s 195, as the Flyers’ prospect led the team with 70 combined shots on goal, misses, and shots that were blocked on the power play.
Boston College’s first two games of the season take place on November 27th and 28th against the University of Massachusetts Minutemen. Their first game of the second semester, the first game St. Ivany is believed to be eligible for, is on January 8th against the Northeastern Huskies. The BC Eagles finished first in the Hockey East in 2019-20 with a 17-6-1 record in the conference and a 24-8-2 record overall.
