Philadelphia Flyers hockey is back, baby. Rookie Camp kicked off on Thursday morning with Matvei Michkov headlining a group of Flyers prospects taking the ice at the Flyers Training Center in Voorhees. The young phenom will also officially be making his Flyers debut this weekend against the New York Rangers.
The Flyers and Rangers are playing two Rookie Series games this weekend at the PPL Center in Allentown, and the team announced on Thursday that Michkov will be in the lineup on Friday night.
Not only will Michkov be making his debut, but fans will actually be able to watch the game! The Flyers will be streaming both games on their website.
Michkov Mania has already overtaken Philadelphia and the surrounding areas with fans lined up for Rookie Camp on Thursday morning. He then wowed the crowd with a Michigan attempt among his many highlights from the first on-ice session of camp.
It’s possible that Michkov also plays in Saturday’s game at the PPL Center, but given the number of players in camp and the quick turnaround, there will be a handful of players to sit out one of those games.
It wouldn’t be too surprising if the Flyers give Michkov a breather on Saturday evening given the fact that he’ll have a full slate of preseason games to get in on while some of the other rookies will be returning to their junior teams.
No matter how it shakes out, seeing Michkov in Orange and Black this fall is a sight all Flyers fans should be excited about. The top prospect was able to get out of his KHL contract to come over to North America and join the Flyers two years earlier than expected.
Get ready, Flyers fans, Michkov Mania is only getting started.
