*Y’all catch Game 1 of the Flyers-Canes series, which inexplicably was played on Saturday night while the first round is still going on? It was uh… well it was a little rough. RECAP!
*It got pretty scrappy, this game, and Rick Tocchet had some things to say about that. [BSH]
*One of the reasons this game was so rough was the Flyers were without Owen Tippett, and they’re probably going to need him and his speed if they’re going to stand a chance. [The Athletic]
*As of now, looks like Tippett with be a gametime decision for tonight’s Game 2. [Inquirer]
*There’s no getting around how outmatched the Flyers looked on Saturday, but it wasn’t all bad. There were a few bright spots. Like the 4th line, which once again looked great. [BSH]
*Denver Barkey also had a strong game. And he was playing center! It’ll be interesting to see if he could ultimately stick there. [PHLY]
*The Canes didn’t have a ton of weak spots in the first round, which made their weak power play numbers all the more glaring. Rick Tocchet should try to figure out how to take advantage of that. [BSH]
*And therei s one line in particular that the Flyers would do well to try and shut down. [BSH]
*Might be worth looking back at the season series against the Canes for some lessons that might help the Flyers be a little more competitive as this series rolls on. [BSH]
*With all of this, it’s probably not a huge surprise to you that the Flyers are heavy, heavy underdogs in this one. [BSH]
*And finally, some things NOT specifically about the Canes wiping the ice with our boys Saturday night: first, a look at the Flyers crop of Black Aces, who are going to provide some very reliable depth in this series should the Flyers need to tap into it. And then Matvei Michkov, whose former agent provided a little insight into his relationship with Rick Tocchet and his performance in the playoffs thus far.
