Monday Morning Fly By: Ryan Ellis is a Flyer

*The big pre-expansion draft splash was made by … the Flyers!? Ryan Ellis is a Philadelphia Flyer, and boy are we all giddy about it. [BSH]

*To get Ellis, the team sent Phil Myers and Nolan Patrick the other way. The Predators then flipped Patrick to Vegas for Cody Glass. It’s honestly stunning that the Flyers were able to add Ellis without moving the 13th overall pick or one of their top prospects. Helluva job, Chuck. [BSH]

*Speaking of Chuck Fletcher, the Flyers’ General Manager had some interesting things to say about the move for Ellis. And their plan for that first-round pick? Well, that’s still up in the air. [BSH]

*Charlie broke down the Ellis trade from all angles, and honestly the deeper you dive into it, the more this starts to feel like a perfect fit. [The Athletic]

*Of course, the big trade wasn’t the only news to break over the weekend. We also learned who the Flyers have chosen to protect in the looming expansion draft. [BSH]

*There were reports that the Flyers were going to protect James van Riemsdyk after trading Nolan Patrick, but they turned out to be incorrect. The surprise addition? Nicolas Aube-Kubel. [NBC Sports Philly]

*Back-to-back games in the same city were something that the NHL leaned on last season to get through the condensed schedule. It’s looking like they may be here to stay. [Philly Hockey Now]

*In other expansion news, Carey Price waived his no-movement clause and was left unprotected by the Montreal Canadiens. He’s also injured, and may not be ready for the start of next season. [Habs Eyes On The Prize]

*A complete list of every player both protected, and available, in the Seattle expansion draft. Who will be joining the Kraken? [The Athletic]

*REMINDER: It’s draft week, and we are back to hosting draft parties! Come hang out with us at Xfinity Live as we watch the 2021 NHL Entry Draft. [BSH]
