Today’s open discussion thread, complete with your daily dose of Philadelphia Flyers news and notes…

*The Flyers really seemed to give it their all in Saturday night’s Game 4, but in the end, it was just not enough to overcome what is a very, very good Carolina Hurricanes team. Boys did their best. Recap!

*Because this team can never simply be normal, Rick Tocchet decided to scratch Matvei Michkov in what was, obviously, the biggest game of the season. So that’s cool. [BSH]

*But yeah, it’s hard to be mad at where this season ended up. Running into a team on what is shaping up to be an historic run to the Cup Final is a real “way she goes” kinda thing. [The Athletic]

*Let’s talk about some good stuff, though. Like the rousing ovation Flyers fans gave to their team as the handshakes were taking place on the ice. [PHLY]

*And the performance of Sean Couturier in these playoffs. Anyone talking buyout now? If you still are, you’re nuts. [BSH]

*Another very good things is the lessons the Flyers’ new young core will learn from this experience and take with them into next season. Which will hopefully lead to some steps forward. [Inquirer]

*Last but pretty much the farthest thing from least, Dan Vladar. What a revelation he was this season. The whole season right into the playoffs. Sure hope he keeps it up next year. [BSH]

*For a little balance, here’s a reason why the Flyers season was a success, and one why it was not. [Inquirer]

*Like we said above, there’s a lot to be learned from this series. We made a list for you. [BSH]

*And finally, as we shift into offseason mode, here are some keys to the offseason for the Flyers and the rest of the teams who find themselves eliminated from the Stanley Cup Playoffs. [ESPN]
