Morgan Frost can find security with Michkov

There has not been a player for the Philadelphia Flyers that has had more of a reputation roller coaster than Morgan Frost the last couple of seasons.

Through his time under John Tortorella, there have been times where the Flyers head coach compared his performance to a toilet seat going up and down, and times where Frost has found himself out of the lineup for a stretch. But also, there are weeks where the 25-year-old center could be heralded as one of the better forwards on this team.

Throughout these two scenarios, the outlook of Frost’s future on this team was always in question. His name perpetually in trade rumors during deadline season while he was not getting any chance to be on the ice. And then we were all penciling in his name as a second-line center on a playoff team while he had a good stretch of games and Tortorella seemed to appreciate his play.

Nothing has felt secure when it comes to Frost and the Flyers. Just going week-by-week to determine if the front office views him as a player they want to keep around or potentially move out with some team control left before he hits unrestricted free agency, and then move on. Hell, maybe he would have already been shipped out of Sean Couturier didn’t miss the entire 2022-23 season and this team was (and still is) desperate for anyone talented to play the center position.

But this feeling of insecurity could potentially start to dwindle and appear like a silly little memory we all had — eventually asking ourselves “What if?” when we see Frost heavily established as a top-six center on this team — if he can build some sort of chemistry with Matvei Michkov.
