Morgan Frost officially sent down to the AHL, will report to Phantoms

We got a pretty strong idea yesterday that Morgan Frost would be heading to the AHL to report to the Lehigh Valley Phantoms, but today it was made official. After only getting to play in two preseason games due to a groin injury, Frost will start the season in the minors.

Frost didn’t register a point in those two games, but he showed flashes of the high end skill he possesses. While we all certainly would have loved for Frost to make this team, the fact he didn’t is perfectly okay. The 20 year old prospect is still recovering from the groin strain he suffered, and it would realistically make zero sense for him to travel to Prague for him to not even play.

Yesterday, general manager Chuck Fletcher commented on Frost’s situation:

Look, we’d all love to see Frost in a Flyers jersey as soon as possible, but this is a fair argument. This is a top two prospect in the organization who should probably be playing more than fourth line minutes as he transitions to facing better competition. Frost undoubtedly will be getting plenty of work in with the Phantoms, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see him crack this lineup before the end of the calendar year.

Is it a bummer? Sure, but these are not the end times, folks. And with Joel Farabee appearing to be a lock for the opening day roster in Prague, there’s plenty to be excited for.
