The Flyers are definitely interested in the No. 1 overall pick. Reports from beat writers based in both Philadelphia and Florida this afternoon indicate that Ron Hextall is strong in his desire to acquire that choice from the Panthers, which would allow him to select stud defenseman Aaron Ekblad. (Assuming Ekblad is atop their board, of course.)

Names floated from #Flyers folk regarding #FlaPanthers top pick: The Schenns, Read, Simmonds and Vinny. Phil has interest in Gudbranson.

Going to take a lot for #Flyers to move from 17th to first from #FlaPanthers .. But Dale could package a player or two to make a blockbuster

I mean, if you could get the No. 1 pick and get rid of Vincent Lecavalier in one fell swoop…
We’ve been hearing about this for about two weeks now. The Flyers are certainly not the only team interested, though. There are also reports that the Toronto Maple Leafs have offered a package centering around our old friend James van Riemsdyk that would bring Toronto the No. 1 overall selection. No word if the Panthers are biting on that though.
Stay tuned. It’s going to be a fun night.
