With the 205th overall selection, the Philadelphia Flyers have taken forward Marcus Westfalt in this year’s draft. The Swedish skater that splits his time between center and left wing rose from being ranked 44th on Central Scouting’s mid-term rankings to 37th in the final rankings among European skaters.
The 6’3”, 203-pound forward had a goal and three assists in 31 regular season games for Brynas IF in the SHL before he went pointless in eight playoff contests.
It’s tough to decide whether or not a pick in the seventh round was a good selection, but Westfalt has a lot of qualities Hextall looks for in a pick and played against men this season. Elite Prospects has more on Westfalt’s playing style:
“A strong two-way player with pretty good scoring ability. Plays a solid physical game, has very good hockey sense and can be used on both special teams. Leads by example and has great attitude and work-ethic.”
Westfalt is expected to play for Brynas IF next season, as he will most likely split time between their SHL and SuperElit teams.
Entering the draft with nine picks, the Flyers exit having traded away one of them while taking four forwards, three defensemen, and a goalie.
