Flyers dominate Penguins (really!) in 7-2 win

Kevin Hayes opens the scoring after a long stoppage and video review to confirm that Casey DeSmith didn’t, in fact, make a miraculous save — 1-0 Flyers as Hayes ends a lengthy goal drought.

Hockey is a game of inches and at the other end Alex Lyon got to this puck just in the nick of time — great effort from the Flyers’ netminder.

A two-goal lead for the Flyers? In this economy? It’s true, and courtesy of Shayne Gostisbehere and this bomb from the point on the power play with plenty of traffic in front of the Penguins’ net. It’s the Flyers’ first 2-0 lead since, what, like January?

Already armed with a 2-0 lead the Flyers pressed for more, and more the captain would provide to give the club three goals in just over a minute to take a commanding 3-0 lead in the first.

After 20: Flyers 3, Penguins 0

New period and yet the same Flyers domination out of the gate as they hounded the Penguins on the puck right from the jump.

That tenacity caught up to the flightless birds again, and the man ready for the payoff was Wade Allison to pot his second career NHL goal to push the lead to 4-0.

That was all the scoring in the second, though the Flyers kept the pressure on throughout.

After 40: Flyers 4, Penguins 0

Another Flyers penalty to start the third and they’d pay the price — death, taxes, and Sidney Crosby scoring against the Orange and Black.

Within three, the refs seemed dead set on giving the Penguins every chance to try and get right back in the hockey game. Look at this below and just explain how in the heck it makes any sense.

And because of course, it’d lead to a Penguins goal to draw the Flyers’ lead to 4-2. Jason Zucker with the perfect tip home and suddenly things set up for a final 12 minutes of chaos.

But the Penguins’ comeback bid didn’t take off further as Joel Farabee restored the three-goal lead with this beauty of a power move in close to make it 5-2.

But the Flyers weren’t done rubbing in their rivals’ faces as Claude Giroux added one to the empty net and Kevin Hayes potted another — with a goalie in there — to push the final to 7-2.

It’s the Flyers’ first win by multiple goals since March, so enjoy this one gang.

Final: Flyers 7, Penguins 2
