Flyers sign Linus Hogberg to ELC

Ask and you shall receive, apparently! Yesterday we made note that the Flyers still only had until Monday to sign prospects Linus Hogberg and David Bernhardt to entry level contracts before their rights expire, and the Flyers delivered on getting one of those taken care of today! They’ve just announced that they’ve signed 21 year old defenseman Hogberg, coming off a solid season with Vaxjo of the SHL (14 points in 50 games), to his ELC.

The contract kicks in for the 2020-21 season, meaning of course that he wouldn’t be eligible to play when hockey comes back for the playoffs this summer. Not that we necessarily expected him to, but it’s worth being super clear on that.

This also means that the Phantoms currently have six defensemen (or maybe seven, depending on what happens with Samuel Morin and Mark Friedman) under contract for next season, so it looks like they may well be set. Hogberg will be joining rookies Egor Zamula and Wyatte Wylie as a first year professional next season, so it’s another influx of young talent on the back end following the influx of rookie forwards last season. We’ve got a young team, folks! Let’s get excited!
