Flyers getting trade calls on Poehling, Zamula

It’s trade deadline morning, and that means a fresh batch of Flyers rumors are bubbling to the surface ahead of the 3 PM deadline.

A new name seemingly drawing interest this morning? Flyers bottom-six center Ryan Poehling, according to The Daily Faceoff’s Anthony Di Marco.

Poehling, who carries a $1.9 million cap hit through next season, could be a cheaper option for contenders looking for forward depth. With 15 points in 48 games this season, Poehling’s speed and intangibles could really add to a team’s bottom six. Makes a lot of sense that the Flyers are getting calls, but the team is under no pressure to deal Poehling with another year to go on his contract.

Meanwhile, as we discussed yesterday, defenseman Egor Zamula seems to be drawing legit interest this morning. Adding onto initial chatter yesterday evening, the Flyers are getting calls from numerous teams on the defenseman’s availability.

Whether it’s through trading Zamula or Rasmus Ristolainen, the Flyers clearly are searching for ways to clear a roster spot on the backend. With important prospects waiting in Oliver Bonk, Emil Andrae, and Hunter McDonald, something has to budge on the current roster. There’s a chance the Flyers have neither Zamula or Ristolainen on the roster come 3 PM, but perhaps this is an avenue for the Flyers to at least clear one via Zamula.

And finally, to round things out, a quick mention to the Scott Laughton sweepstakes. Laughton, after the trade of Brock Nelson to the Avalanche, appears to be the most-desired center left on the market this morning.

This situation sets up really nicely for the Flyers, who can drive a hard bargain in a market that has been extremely friendly to sellers already. The price likely starts at a first, and probably extends to further picks or a prospect. Lots can happen between now and the deadline, but it’s looking increasingly likely that a team finally meets the asking price for Laughton.
