Nick Seeler wants to stay in Philadelphia, not explore free agency

Despite being constantly in rumors before this Fridays trade deadline, Philadelphia Flyers defenseman Nick Seeler is adamant in his desire to stay where he is right now and not even think about a future somewhere else.

After the Flyers’ 2-1 shootout loss to the St. Louis Blues on Monday night, Seeler was asked if he was thinking about his pending unrestricted free agency this summer. Well, it is clear that he doesn’t even want to spend a moment pondering him playing on a team other than the Flyers and living somewhere else than Philadelphia.

“No. No. I love it here,” Seeler said via The Athletic’s Kevin Kurz. “When you find a place in this business that you feel respected and how well they treat their players, that’s some place that you want to stick around. I’ve never wavered on that.”

Seeler’s home next season is still in question. As of right now, the pending free agent is still rumored to be likely on the move before Friday’s trade deadline, but the team is also in communication with the player and his agent regarding a potential contract extension. It appears to be a classic standstill as the clock ticks down and we’re all just waiting to see if there is a trade to be made or a contract offer that works for both sides.

Flyers general manager Danny Briere will not let Seeler go in a trade just for the sake of letting getting any future asset — the player could even act as an “internal rental” as the team fights to secure playoff position — so we might see something, or could see nothing and this team’s front office will have to explain their way through it.

Nevertheless, it is just perfect for a player to come here without any knowledge of what it is like to play in this city, as a former executive’s former player, to then just fall in love and completely embody what it means to be a Flyer.

We’ll hopefully see some resolution in the coming days.
